Busting the Myths About Virtual School

Owl Myth #1: You are on your own!

Myth busted: Your teacher is available by phone, text, email & video chat. Your administration team is just a phone call away!

Owl Myth #2: Online Courses are super easy!

Myth busted: Our online courses can be more challenging because students acquire new skills, such as organization, independence & proactivity. All of these are 21st Century workforce skills!

Owl Myth #3: There are no deadlines!

Myth busted: Online courses allow flexibility, but students must maintain a set pace by working on a weekly basis. The number of submissions depends on the course. YOUR PACE GUIDE is your #1 planning tool!

Owl Myth #4: Everyone cheats in online courses!

Myth busted: Make no mistake, we take Academic Integrity very seriously. We have built-in safeguards to make sure a student’s work is original.

Owl Myth #5: Colleges and universities do not like when students take online courses!

Myth busted: Colleges and universities offer fully online degree programs. We are a fully accredited A-rated public school. Most of our high school students earn scholarships and their AA Degree by their Senior year!

Owl Myth #6: Students can complete a course in a weekend or two.

Myth busted: Course lengths vary however most segments (or semester-length courses) require 15-18 weeks to complete in a full-time public virtual school program where a student is scheduled for 6 courses in a given semester. To ensure adequate time for comprehension and mastery, students must work in a single course segment consistently for a minimum of 14 days starting from the date of the first assignment submission (not counting the pretests).
