From the Principal's Desk:

Dear Salisbury Families:

Well, it was a short week last week, but we still got some fun things in! The one that was outside the regular day was Movie Night, which was a great success. We'll do another one in a few months! Look below for a couple pictures.

And during the day we've been able to enjoy real winter! We've been playing in snowbanks, making forts, and looking for animal tracks! Getting some real winter is a great reminder of just how many fun traditions we have that require snow- it's nice to be doing them. Please remember to keep sending in students in with the "High 5 of Winter Clothing": Boots, gloves, hat, snowpants, and winter coat.

The important message for this newsletter: there are a few more days to order Salisbury Community School clothing! We decided to extend the store a few more days, so you have until Friday! This will be the only school store for this year, although we will do one next fall (and earlier in the school year).

Sincerely,

Bjarki

Important dates:

Friday, January 26th: On-line school store closes

Friday, January 26th: Elementary band practice: 12:30- 1:45

Important Notes from SCS: Important Notes from SCS:

We extended the store one more week!!!! Order now!

We extended the deadline for the on-line store one more week! It now closes this Friday (the 26th) We had heard from some folks that they hadn't ordered yet but wanted to, so we gave it a little more time.

How it works: click on the "button" below to order. When the store closes this Friday then 802 Print will print all the items and send them to us, and we will send them home to you! The items will arrive at SCS in Mid- February.

Please note that there are two logos to choose from! Our traditional "circle" logo and one with a bobcat jumping into action!

One more chance: A Survey from FOSCS on interest in after-school care One more chance: A Survey from FOSCS on interest in after-school care

The FOSCS parent group is in the initial stages of exploring the need for and feasibility of after-school care. While we don't yet have an idea of when such care would be available or what it would look like, understanding the scope of need is the first step in solving such needs. Please take a moment to fill out this brief survey.

Movie Night was a hit!

Last Friday, we hosted FOSCS Movie Night! It was awesome to see students (and former and future students) come with pjs, sleeping bags and blankets to enjoy a fun movie. The kids managed to run around the gym a whole bunch, and then settled down to watch a movie and have some snacks. And then went the lights went back up there was a little more running around for good measure!

The students chose the movie! Each class nominated 5 movies, and then the most nominated movies were then put to a final vote. The result?: the Pixar classic "Monsters Inc", and the audience enjoyed it thoroughly. Thanks to our FOSCS volunteers for helping run the event and pick up after, thanks also to Christina Sheldrick for all the popcorn, ACSD tech director Will Hatch for help with our sound set-up, Ms. T for coming a long way to be part of it and connect with students and families, and of course thanks to our custodian Pete Maloy for all that he always does behind the scenes. Looking forward to the next one already!

Sunny Winter Days! Sunny Winter Days!

Free Dental Care for ACSD Students!

ACSD schools are participating in the 802 Smiles Network, which promotes dental health programs in Vermont schools. This means your child is eligible for a free dental screening at school and may be eligible to receive preventive dental services at no cost to you. All you have to do is to fill out the online consent forms by February 1st, 2024. We also have paper forms that will be sent home.

The registered dental hygienist can provide the following free services:

  • Dental Screening (simplified dental check-up)

  • Fluoride Varnish (brush-on liquid that can help prevent cavities)

  • Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) (brush-on combination of silver and fluoride that can help stop cavities from getting bigger)

  • Dental Cleanings (helps keep the mouth healthy and clean!)

  • Oral Health Education (teaches students how to brush, floss, maintain good oral health)

  • Dental Sealants (a thin layer of material placed on back teeth to prevent decay)

Our schools will be served by dental hygienist, Michael Messina. If you choose to participate, Michael will send you a follow-up letter after your child’s screening explaining the services provided, whether additional treatment is recommended, and help connect you to a dental professional, if needed. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the school’s dental hygienist, Michael Messina at michaelmessina.rdh@gmail.com or our school nurse
