The OMS Community Newsletter
Week of January 27 - 31
In January, the bulletin board and the main lobby had snowflakes that share students' New Years resolutions. This was an activity students completed in Knight Time Advisory.
Principal's Message
Dear OMS Community,
We are halfway through the school year! This also means we are halfway through Trimester 2.
Progress reports for Trimester 2 will be emailed home next week. They are also available to view on the Parent Portal under the "P2" column. Progress reports are a snapshot of how your child is doing in classes so far this trimester. Trimester 2 ends on Friday, March 21st. Students still have time in Trimester 2 if they are looking to improve their grades. If students are doing well academically so far, they are encouraged to continue working hard through the rest of the trimester.
There are two ways students and parents/guardians can stay up-to-date on academics:
- PowerSchool Portal: Parents/Guardians can monitor grades and view any missing assignments on the PowerSchool Portal. If you select the grade, you will be able to view the detailed assignment list to see more information on how students are doing in each class. Students also have access to viewing this information through their PowerSchool. There are various settings parents can utilize on the PowerSchool Portal and you can turn notifications on/off based on your own preferences. If you need help with the PowerSchool Portal, please call the OMS main office. You can access the Portal by going to the OMS website and clicking on "PowerSchool" at the top right corner.
- Google Classroom: Students have a Google Classroom for all of their classes. This is a hub for many online assignments. While many assignments can be accessed through the Google Classroom, this space does not have all assignments. For example, any paper-based assignments would be turned into the teacher during class and not on Google Classroom. Parents/guardians, if you are viewing your student's Google Classroom, remember to check if a student completed the assignment before pressing submit. If a student submits a blank assignment on Google Classroom, it may look complete because it is "submitted" but the assignment could be blank. Note: We have an "OMS Students" Google Classroom which functions as a hub for school announcements for any clubs, activities, or resources for students.
If you have any questions about your child's grades or progress in a class, please reach out directly to their teacher by email or phone.
Thank you,
Katrina Crowley
OMS Principal

Keniel Mercado Cruz - Regional Scholastic Art Awards
Congratulations to Keniel Mercado Cruz for winning the Silver Key for the Regional Scholastic Art Awards! Keniel submitted 2 pieces of art in the Drawing and Illustration category. He won the Silver Key for his piece, Burnout.
Burnout
Size: 11x14inches
Materials: Compressed Charcoal Sticks, Blending Stumps, Charcoal Pencils, White Paint Marker, Kneadable Eraser
Artist Statement: This piece represents the mental chaos and overwhelming stress I’ve experienced over the past year. The layers of scattered thoughts and to-do lists reflect the constant overthinking and pressure to keep up, despite me feeling fatigued. Words and symbols swirl in a storm of emotions, ranging from frustration to burnout , mirroring the relentless inner speech that feels inescapable. Through this work, I wanted to capture the struggle of balancing expectations, mental exhaustion, and the weight of simply trying to move forward.
OMS Parent/Guardian Survey
As a reminder, parents/guardians please complete a brief survey to share feedback with the OMS School Council on topics of organizational tool, accessing information, parent-teacher conferences, and lockers. We will be reviewing these survey results to see areas where we can keep improving as a school.
The survey deadline has been extended to this Sunday, February 2nd: https://forms.gle/Bw6sQSEjHabxZARN6
Classroom Spotlight: Mrs. Taylor's 6th Grade Science Class

SHS Information for Grade 8 Students & Families
Thank you to those who were able to attend the SHS Showcase this week! Grade 8 students and families received an email from Ms. Miller (SHS Principal) with the SHS Program of Studies for 2025-2026. Grade 8 students and families are strongly encouraged to review this catalogue completely. During the month of February you should begin to plan what courses you would like to take for next year and have conversations with your teachers, parent/guardian and school counselor about your short and long term goals, interests and plans for after high school. In March during the school day, Grade 8 students will be selecting their courses for the 2025-2026 school year.
