CATCHING UP WITH... Mrs. Edmonston
Dear Coyote Families,
It was another wonderful week at Canyon View Elementary! On Tuesday, our Coyotes enjoyed a playground play-date with our Westview and Mt. Carmel Ambassadors. These stand-out high school seniors join our students on the playground to model the Canyon View C.A.R.E.S. values. On Thursday, students had their second VAPA day. VAPA teachers present special Visual and Performing Arts Lessons that include global language and culture. On Friday evening, the PTO hosted Around the World Night. Coyote families from around the world regaled us with clothing, food, and cultural experiences from nearly every continent. It was truly a night to remember!
I want to take the opportunity to let you know about Red Envelope Week, which is coming up very soon! This is our Foundation's biggest fundraiser, and it is a direct ask to families. The Canyon View Foundation funds many important programs, that make a tremendous difference in your children's educational experience. Without your support, these programs go away. Please look out for Red Envelope information coming your way soon, and let's make a difference for our students!
Let's Make it a GREAT week!
Warmly,
Erica Edmonston
Principal, Canyon View Elementary School

Members are expected to attend all meetings. Our first zoom meeting for this school year will be scheduled in October/November.
If you would like to become a member of the SSC, please email Complete this Google Form by Saturday, September 20, 2025, indicating your interest and including a sentence or two about why you wish to serve on the council. This information will be included on a ballot that will be sent to the community for voting.
RED ENVELOPE WEEK IS COMING!!! 9/22-9/26
Red Envelope Week is coming! The Canyon View Foundation’s BIGGEST FUNDRAISER of the year will take place between September 22 and 26. What is the Red Envelope Fundraiser? The Red Envelope Fundraiser is a direct-ask fundraiser where the Canyon View Foundation requests the support of our families so we can continue to provide our students with our amazing special programs (Art, Music, PE, Science, and IMPACT), and funding the Innovation Station Lab, technology, software licensing, playground equipment, and much more. These items are NOT supported by the current school district budget.
Individual, class and school-wide participation prize opportunities as well as theme spirit dress-up days are some of the things students can look forward to during Red Envelope Week. Stay tuned for more info. Participation is voluntary and not required.

VOLUNTEER PROCESS UPDATE
We want to provide a quick update regarding our volunteer process. While we had originally planned to have the new system finalized by mid-September, we are adjusting our timeline to the end of September to ensure everything is set up smoothly and staff receive proper training.
In the meantime, schools will continue to operate as previously shared by welcoming those who wish to help on campus as visitors. If you plan to volunteer on a regular basis this year, we still encourage you to complete your TB assessment or testing now so you’re ready once the updated process launches.
Thank you for your patience and ongoing support as we work to build a more efficient volunteer experience. Our volunteers are a valued part of our school communities, and we look forward to welcoming you under the new system soon.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Our volunteers truly make a difference in the lives of our students.
ABSENCES FOR RELIGIOUS HOLIDAYS
We recognize and respect the many religious traditions observed in our school community. We know that these observances are deeply meaningful, and we are committed to supporting your child should participation require them to miss school.
If your child will be absent for any reason, please notify our school office. Absences for religious observance are excused. We will work with your students to ensure that they remain supported academically and remain included in the school community.
We are grateful for your continued partnership and for the many contributions you make to our community. Together we uphold our shared commitment to developing an inclusive environment where every student feels supported and valued.
Caring Connections Parent Education Opportunities
Our district’s Caring Connections Parent Education website has new and exciting courses being offered. Check the website at the beginning of each term for the new courses offered to parents, families, and our school community; scholarship opportunities may be available. Waiting for the Biblioburro, written by Monica Brown, illustrated by John Parra
Ana loves stories. She often makes them up to help her little brother fall asleep. But in her small village there are only a few books and she has read them all. One morning, Ana wakes up to the clip-clop of hooves, and there before her, is the most wonderful sight: a traveling library resting on the backs of two burros–all the books a little girl could dream of, with enough stories to encourage her to create one of her own. Inspired by the heroic efforts of real-life librarian Luis Soriano, this charming book introduces readers to the mobile library that journeys over mountains and through valleys to bring literacy and culture to rural Colombia, and to the children who wait for the Biblioburro.

Parkinglot Reminders
- Please do not park along Adolphia Street between Black Mountain and the school entrance. Parking in that location pushes out the line of stopped cars waiting to get into the school, and blocks the only traffic lane, which then causes the stopped cars to back up all the way out onto Black Mountain Road. It is very dangerous!
- Park in marked spaces only: No curb parking along the perimeter of the lot, No parking in Reserved spaces, No parking in the BUS ONLY area.
- If you are driving to pick-up, use our pick-up lane. Meeting up in alternate areas in or around the parking lot is a safety hazard and is not permitted.
Green Cone Zone:
The Green Cone Zone is located on the east side of the parking lot. This area is reserved for loading/unloading of students in our preschool and Special Day Classes who require additional assistance ONLY (Ms. Marty, Ms. Morrison, Mrs. Ruble, and Ms. Dobson's classes). This is not a parking area for TK.
