Weekly Reminders
October 19th
Dear La Mariposa Families,
We have a busy and exciting week ahead! Here’s what’s coming up.
📸 School Picture Day – Wednesday, October 21
This Wednesday is School Picture Day! All students will be photographed, and our schedule has every class captured before their first recess, so please make sure your child arrives on time and picture-ready. A flyer with more information was sent home and is included below.
🏆 House Games – Thursday, October 22 (Grades 2–5)
Thursday is our very first House Games celebration for students in grades 2–5! These events bring our houses together to celebrate successes, build teamwork, and enjoy some friendly competition. Students should wear their house shirts to show off their house spirit!
🎨 First Grade Art Show – Thursday, October 22, 6:00–7:00 PM
Join us Thursday evening for our annual First Grade Art Show in the MPR. Our first graders have studied a variety of famous artists, and their own interpretations of these masterpieces will be on display. Our first grade teachers are hosting the event and can’t wait for families to see the amazing work their students produced!
🚫 NO SCHOOL – Monday, October 26
There is no school next Monday, October 26. Teachers will be in professional development as we continue our work around the Science of Reading.
🦋 Celebrating Our California Dashboard Results
The California School Dashboard was released to the public this week, and La Mariposa is proud to celebrate our students’ achievement! For our whole student group, every academic indicator landed in Blue — the highest performance level possible. Thank you to our hardworking students, dedicated staff, and supportive families for making this possible. If you’d like to view the results, you can find them here: https://www.caschooldashboard.org/
🎗️ Red Ribbon Week – October 27–30
Next week, La Mariposa joins schools across the country in celebrating Red Ribbon Week, the nation’s largest and longest-running drug prevention campaign. Red Ribbon Week began in honor of DEA Special Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, who lost his life in 1985 while working to fight drug trafficking. Today, it’s a time for students, families, and communities to commit to healthy, safe, and drug-free choices. Our spirit days and themes for the week are listed on the flyer below. We can’t wait to see everyone participate!
Thank you for your continued partnership. We look forward to a wonderful week together!
Dance-A-Thon – Our Biggest Fundraiser of the Year!
Our PTA is working hard to kick off the Dance-A-Thon, and we need your help to reach our $40,000 goal! Funds raised support enrichment for all of our students, including our supplemental PE program, classroom teacher supply funds, library books, and much more. A separate email with all the event details has been sent, so please keep an eye out for it. Let's get moving!
Student Wellbeing Index for Grades 3-8
As part of our work to capture additional funding to maintain the quality counseling supports occurring in our schools through the Children and Youth Behavioral Health Initiative (CYBHI), we will be asking for students in grades 3-8 to take a strengths-based screener known as the Wellbeing Index. The screener will provide very basic information that gives us the ability to bill for services that are occurring in our schools.
Here is a link to the 3rd-5th grade screener
Here is a link to the middle school screener
The screener will be administered beginning on October 19th. Please complete this form if you would like to opt your student out of the survey.

TIGER TALES READING MINUTES

Reading includes being read to by an adult!
25-26 Final: 826,463
Amazing things are happening at LMS!
1. Student Leadership in Action
Our House Leaders are stepping up in a big way! From leading morning announcements and greeting students at the door to promoting fundraisers, collecting house points, and running house games, these students are showing what it means to lead by example every day.
2. First Grade Thematic Learning in Action: Bat Day
Our first graders went batty for learning! Bat Day brought science, reading, and math together as students explored these amazing creatures through hands-on, connected lessons.
3. Small Group Literacy in Kindergarten
Our kindergarteners are building strong reading foundations! In small groups, students practice using Science of Reading strategies putting the sounds together orally to blend words.
4. Inclusion in Action: YAC PE
Everyone belongs in our YAC PE program! Students learn side by side as they warm up together and build new skills, creating a place where every student can participate, grow, and have fun.

Attendance Matters
Please ALWAYS call the school absence hotline in the morning if your child is absent. You may also let your teacher know, but not in lieu of calling the office. Teachers do not record absence reasons in our system. 805-383-5315
Our GOAL for attendance is 97% Monthly. Student attendance will be recognized by trimester for achieving 97%. Each month, classes will earn a prize for achieving 97% as a class, or making a 1% improvement.
This FAQ sheet helps explain attendance policies and provides information for Independent Study.
Parent Teacher Association
We encourage you to become active in our PTA. This group’s mission is to provide expanded enrichment opportunities for our children and we are appreciative of their efforts.
As a public school, families are not required to purchase supplies. Parents often ask for a list of recommended supplies by grade. Our PTA has posted these lists on their website for families that are looking for suggestions. La Mariposa PTA
