Black Bears Assemble
Celebrating Student Voice and Work
The Pierce Black Bears came together for their first assembly of the year. Mrs. Sutton’s class opened the gathering with a drum call, symbolizing our school coming together as a community. We enjoyed seeing Mrs. Powell’s cleverly camouflaged turkeys. They are sure to survive the upcoming holiday! Mrs. Sutton’s class also taught us about turtles and shared the poem 13 Moons on Turtle’s Back. In addition, Mrs. Germain’s class presented their research on New Hampshire animals and shared a slideshow from their field trip to Great Bay. There are so many great things happening at Pierce School!
Bright Days in Kindergarten
Powerful Learning
News from Ms. Powell
In Mrs. Powell’s class this week we worked hard on our tricky words and being able to quickly recognize them and even spell them! In math, we worked on rearranging numbers and being able to pull numbers apart and put them back together. They have been working so hard!
Finding Success
Smashing Our Way into Math
This week Ms. Sutton’s class started a new reading program. It is interactive, engaging and filled with rich language and literature. Students completed a puzzle to reveal our topic about frogs, learned about “pourquoi” stories and poems, as well as questioning techniques with peers.
In math, second graders learned to “smash” their base ten blocks to regroup when subtracting two digit numbers. Third grade progressed with area and made connections with the area model and multiplication. We wrapped up our week by practicing for assembly on Friday afternoon. Students shared illustrations and writing from various integrated turtle projects we have worked on during the past few weeks. We have been “BEARY” busy!
Happenings with Mrs. Germain
Our field trip to the Great Bay Estuary last Friday was phenomenal!
The 4th graders learned how the Squamscott Natives were able to
live around Great Bay due to the bountiful natural resources. Students
were able to examine the inside of a wigwam and explore the many tools and hunting implements Natives used.
Students also learned about how the early settlers survived in the same region bringing new technologies to build their homes and to hunt.
This week we spent time researching animals that live in the Great Bay region, some year round, some only seasonal. The culminating project was a fact filled paragraph sharing what students had learned about their animal. Some presented at the assembly.
I am very proud of the 4th graders' hard work and great job presenting at Friday's assembly!
Health and Wellness with Mr. LeGraw
Practicing Aerobic Fitness
This week in PE, our students worked hard on their fitness! We talked about how to pace yourself when running longer distances, and everyone got a chance to try the PACER test to see how their aerobic fitness is improving. They all did an awesome job!

Working Together Makes Great Things Happen!
Thanks to all the families that scheduled a time to meet with me last week so that I could give you some helpful tips and supplies to use at home with your students. Together as a team, we can achieve great things!
If you are interested in setting up a quick meeting with me to get some tips or supplies to use at home, please email me at apope@conval.edu. I am typically available at 3:00 pm on most days. I can also meet you between 8:45 and 9:00 am if that is easier for you,
In Kindergarten, several of our students have returned their completed home practice sheets for the Alphabet Letter Name and Sound Cards routine we sent out last month. Ms. Besson and I have seen that this coordinated effort has really helped the kids! Please reach out if you need a new form or help with this routine.
Please Be On The Lookout for a new home activity for Kindergarten Coming Soon.
First Grade students should also Be On The Lookout for a new home activity coming home soon as well!!
Thanks for watching our Lady Redundant Videos! The school is ABUZZ with interest!

Announcing the New Sensory Path
Pierce School is offering a sensory walk as a way for students to take a break and quickly refocus. This opportunity allows them to refresh, get their bodies moving, and return to learning with improved focus. Carefully selected activities along the walk also help activate different parts of the brain, supporting students in resetting their thinking. By the time they return to class, they feel recharged and ready to learn. Ask your student about their favorite part of the walk today!
