Board Member Profile

Wanda Edwards Walker serves Guilford County Schools as the Senior Executive Director of Community Engagement and Equity. In this position, she provides leadership for a 12-member community engagement team tasked with creating, cultivating, and stewarding family, stakeholders, and community partnerships that support the work of the district and schools. Working directly with families, community partners, and volunteers, the office seeks to align its work with the Strategic Direction focus areas of accelerating learning, recruiting, retaining, and rewarding top talent, strengthening health, wellness, and safety in schools, and preparing students for the world. The team also provides professional learning and development centered on educational equity and works with the Superintendent’s office to inform and engage multiple advisory councils that help transform learning and life outcomes for all students.

Before her current role within the district, Walker served as the Director of Communications for eight years. Under her leadership, the communications team used various tools to increase enrollment, attract and retain the best educators, engage stakeholders in our schools, and positively influence public opinion. Those tools included internal and external communications, social media, GCSTV, volunteer and community outreach, special events, and media relations.
