A Strong Start to the School Year! A Strong Start to the School Year!

Dear Warrior Families,

What an incredible start to the school year! As we officially close out our first nine weeks, I want to take a moment to celebrate all that our girls have accomplished. From academic growth and classroom experiences to school traditions and extracurricular activities, it has been a busy and successful first quarter at YWA!

First nine weeks report cards have been printed and will be distributed to each Warrior during 8th period on Monday, October 19. I encourage all families to take time to review their daughter's progress, celebrate successes, and identify areas where we can continue working together to support their growth.

We also wrapped up an exciting Homecoming Week, filled with school spirit, traditions, and opportunities to celebrate what makes YWA such a special place!

There's also a lot of excitement happening in Warrior Athletics! From our high school volleyball team wrapping up its season with hopes of making the playoffs to basketball, wrestling, and our middle school sports getting underway, there's so much to look forward to! Be sure to keep reading for important updates, tryout information, schedules, and everything happening with our athletic programs!

As we begin the second nine weeks, I want to emphasize one of the most important factors in student success: attendance. Every day matters! Texas's 90% attendance rule requires students to attend at least 90% of the days a class is offered to receive credit or a final grade. But beyond that requirement, every day in the classroom is an opportunity to learn, grow, connect, and succeed. Let's work together to make daily attendance a priority and keep our girls focused on their academic goals.

Thank you, families, for your continued support and partnership. We've had a wonderful first nine weeks, and I am excited about everything still ahead of us. Let's make the second nine weeks even better!

🏫 Campus Improvements: Exciting Things Are Happening at YWA!

We have some exciting updates to share about improvements happening around our campus!

🚧 Secure Front Entrance Construction

Construction on our new secure front entrance continues to move forward! Crews have recently completed work on the ceiling in our main lobby and will soon begin installing the new door frames. This project is an important step toward strengthening campus security and providing a safer, more controlled entrance for our students, staff, and visitors.

As construction progresses, we will continue to keep families informed of any changes that may impact access to our campus. Thank you for your patience as we work through these improvements!

💗 Our New Digital Marquee Is FINALLY Here!

After nearly three years of waiting, we are excited to announce that our new digital marquee, generously donated by our PTSO, is scheduled to be installed this Friday, October 23!

This is such an exciting addition to our campus, and we are incredibly grateful to our PTSO for making it possible! The new marquee will be located outside the gym and will allow us to share important announcements, upcoming events, school activities, and celebrations with our YWA community.

For families who pick up their Warriors in the front parking lot, you'll soon have a new way to stay connected with what's happening at YWA!

We know some families pick up their girls at the bottom of the hill along Arizona Street and may not regularly pass by the marquee. We hope you'll make your way up the hill every once in a while to check it out and see all the exciting things happening at our school!

A huge THANK YOU to our PTSO for their generosity, dedication, and continued support of our girls! We can't wait to see this long-awaited addition come to life! 💗

👮‍♀️ Welcome to YWA, Officer Jennifer Dominguez! 👮‍♀️ Welcome to YWA, Officer Jennifer Dominguez!

We are excited to officially welcome Officer Jennifer Dominguez, our new Campus Police Officer, to the YWA family!

Officer Dominguez has fit right in and is already proving to be such a wonderful asset to our school and, most importantly, our girls! You'll often see her walking around campus, getting to know our students, and making sure everyone is safe. You may also spot her after school helping with traffic and keeping things running smoothly during afternoon pick-up and at athletic events.

We are so grateful to have someone who is not only committed to keeping our campus safe but is also taking the time to build positive relationships with our Warriors.

If you see Officer Dominguez around campus, please take a moment to say hello and give her a warm YWA welcome!

Welcome to the Warrior family, Officer Dominguez! 💗

📝 Testing Tidbits: Important October Testing Dates! 📝 Testing Tidbits: Important October Testing Dates!

As we begin the second nine weeks, we have some important testing dates coming up! Our students will be participating in Interim Assessments and PSAT testing during the last two weeks of October.

These assessments provide valuable information about student progress, help us identify areas where additional support may be needed, and allow us to continue preparing our Warriors for academic success.

📚 Interim Testing: October 21–22

  • Wednesday, October 21: 6th–8th Grade Math and Algebra I

  • Thursday, October 22: 6th–8th Grade Reading and English I & II

Interim assessments help us monitor student progress toward end-of-year expectations and make instructional decisions that best support our girls.

🎓 PSAT Testing: Wednesday, October 28

  • PSAT 8/9: Students in grades 6–9

  • PSAT/NMSQT: Students in grades 10–11

The PSAT provides students with an opportunity to become familiar with college-readiness assessments, identify academic strengths, and prepare for future opportunities. The PSAT/NMSQT also serves as the qualifying assessment for the National Merit Scholarship Program for eligible students.

💗 How Families Can Help

We ask families to help their Warriors prepare by making sure they:

  • Arrive at school on time. Students need time to get settled before testing begins.

  • Charge their devices. Bring a fully charged device and charger.

  • Get a good night's sleep. Being well-rested helps students stay focused.

  • Eat a healthy breakfast. A good start to the morning makes a difference!

Testing locations were emailed to students on October 13. Please encourage your daughter to review her assigned location before testing day.

Attendance is especially important on these days! Thank you for helping us ensure our Warriors arrive prepared, confident, and ready to do their best!

For additional testing information, please refer to the Testing Tidbits flyer provided by our Testing Coordinator, Ms. Brockman.

Something BIG is coming to YWA! On Tuesday, November 10, we will host our YWA STEAM Conference, bringing together our Warriors and 150 nominated 8th-grade girls from EPISD PK–8 and middle schools for a day centered around STEAM, leadership, careers, and possibilities.

Our current 8th-grade Warriors will participate in the conference, exploring hands-on STEAM experiences, a Career Fair, and STEAM Panel alongside our visiting students. Our high school Warriors will step into leadership roles, helping lead hands-on STEAM activities alongside teachers, sponsors, and facilitators.

And we haven't forgotten about our younger Warriors! While the conference takes place on campus:

☁️ 6th Grade → Field Trip to La Nube
🎓 7th Grade → Field Trip to New Mexico State University
🔬 8th Grade → YWA STEAM Conference Participants
💡 High School → STEAM Conference Student Leaders

💼 Calling All Professionals: Share Your Career With Our Girls!

As part of our November 10 STEAM Conference, we are also looking for professionals from our community to participate in our Career Fair and/or STEAM Panel!

We want our girls to meet women and men from a variety of careers, learn about different pathways, ask questions, and see the many possibilities available for their futures. You do not have to work in a traditional STEAM career to participate in the Career Fair... we want our students exposed to a wide variety of professions!

If you, or someone you know, would be willing to share your career, experiences, and advice with our Warriors and visiting 8th-grade students, we would love to hear from you.

🕗 Volunteer Time Commitment: 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
🚌 Field Trip Hours: Approximately 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m.

Although the field trips themselves are scheduled from approximately 9:00 a.m.–2:00 p.m., we are asking volunteers to be available from 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. to allow time for student check-in, departure preparations, transportation, and our return to campus.

Per EPISD requirements, anyone serving as a chaperone must be an approved VIPS volunteer and must be able to provide their own transportation to and from the field trip location.

If you're available and willing to spend the day supporting our Warriors, please complete the interest form below. We would love to have you join us!

YWA STEAM Conference Day – Fill out form

🌟 One Day. Every Warrior.

What makes this day so special is that every YWA student, from 6th through 12th grade, will have an opportunity designed for her... whether she is exploring, experiencing, participating, or leading. At the same time, we'll welcome 150 young women from across our community and give them an opportunity to experience firsthand what makes YWA such a special place to learn and grow.

None of this would be possible without the continued generosity, resources, and support of our partners at Young Women's Preparatory Network (YWPN). Their partnership continues to open doors and create meaningful opportunities for our girls, and we are incredibly grateful for their investment in our Warriors.

November 10 is going to be a BIG day at YWA, and we can't wait! 🩷🩶
