"It's a great day to be a Panther"
Monday, March 24th through Friday, March 29th
Principals Message
Happy Monday DKMS Panther families! It was another busy week here at DKMS.
This past Friday, March 21, 2025, was the last day of the third grading period. Report cards will be emailed to parents on Thursday April 3, 2025. Please contact the middle school office at (269) 623-1541 if you need to add a new email address to your PowerSchool account or if you have had issues receiving emailed information from us in the past.
As we get closer to spring break, I just wanted to remind everyone starting Wednesday April 16, 2025 (our first Wednesday back from spring break), we will begin state testing. Here will be our testing Schedule:
- Wednesday April 16: 5th, 6th, 7th Grade ELA M-STEP and 8th Grade PSAT
- Wednesday April 23: 5th, 6th, 7th Grade Math M-STEP and 8th Grade Science and Social Studies M-STEP
- Wednesday April 30: 5th Grade Science and Social Studies M-STEP
It is very important your child:
- Is present on all test days
- Has a good night's rest
- Eats breakfast
- Charges and brings their Chromebook to school
As we get closer to grade level field trips it is very important students remain eligible for these trips. Please talk with your child's teacher to see the eligibility requirements for these field trips and to check on your child's eligibility. It is important our students stay focused and finish this fourth grading period strong!
As always I would like to thank our students, staff, families, and communities for their hard work and support. Just like Michigan and Michigan State have shown in the NCAA tournament, a great team working together can achieve great things. Have a great week!
It's a great day to be a PANTHER!
Thank you,
Bobby Tillman

Emmy Munsell Shines on Stage
Fifth grader Emmy Munsell is making waves both on stage and in the dance world! Emmy has been dancing since she was just 2 ½ years old and now spends an impressive 20 hours a week at her dance studio. She is part of her competition team, where she performs in 12 dances, along with 9 more dances in her studio’s recreational program. Emmy competes at the elite level—the highest level in dance competitions—and continues to shine with her hard work and dedication.
In addition to her busy dance schedule, Emmy has applied and been accepted into the TPS Intern Teacher Program for the past two years and is excited to have applied again for next year. She dances fluently in jazz, contemporary, lyrical, musical theater, and ballet, showing her versatility and talent.
Two weekends ago, Emmy’s dedication paid off in a big way. She received a prestigious award at the CRU Dance competition, earning the opportunity to dance with performers from across the country at Disney next January.
Way to go, Emmy! We are so proud of your achievements—keep up the amazing work! 🌟
Out of This World: 5th Grade Solar System Projects
To conclude the Earth and Space Systems unit, 5th graders in Mrs. Estep’s science classes have been researching, creating displays, and presenting solar system projects. Working in groups, the students researched each planet, including its distance from the Sun, the time it takes to orbit the Sun (compared to one Earth year), and other fascinating facts. They explored how the Sun’s gravitational pull and inertia work together to keep each planet in orbit. Students teamed up, found solutions, and built creative displays. Their hard work and unique ideas stood out, and they were excited to share what they accomplished. Great job, students! Your projects were truly “out of this world”!
Exploring Future Careers at Career Quest 2025
On Thursday, March 20th, our 8th-grade students had the exciting opportunity to attend Career Quest 2025! During this hands-on event, they explored six high-demand industries: agribusiness, advanced manufacturing, construction, health sciences, hospitality, and information technology. Students enjoyed interacting with professionals, participating in hands-on activities, and getting a firsthand look at what different jobs are really like. From trying out tools to learning about real-world careers, the experience opened their eyes to new possibilities and gave them a better understanding of the many exciting career opportunities right here in West Michigan.
A Sweet Treat in Mrs. Williams’ Class
Last week, Mrs. Williams’ class had a fun and tasty activity—making donuts!
Students used a donut maker to bake their treats, then got to decorate them with frosting, sprinkles, and other toppings. Some kept their donuts simple, while others got creative with their designs.
Once the decorating was done, they enjoyed eating their delicious creations. Along the way, they practiced skills like following directions and being patient.
It was a fun and sweet way to learn!
