Welcome to a new school year at Walled Lake Western! This year, we will continue our theme of WE, grounded in the belief that we are strongest when we work together to connect, support, and empower every Warrior.

We are excited to welcome families for Registration on Wednesday, August 19. While you are here, you’ll notice that our building continues to transform! Phase 3 of our construction project will be complete for the new school year, including renovated spaces in Fine & Performing Arts and CTE, along with new bleachers in our main gym, auxiliary gym, and pool. These new spaces won’t quite be visitor-ready for Registration, but we look forward to sharing them with families at Curriculum Night on Monday, August 31. Thank you to our Western community for your continued support of the enhancements that make WLW a great place to be!

We also have a new way to stay connected this year. ParentSquare will be our district’s new communication platform. Families will continue to receive communications through email, or you can download the ParentSquare app for easy access to school information right from your phone. Alerts and notifications are customizable, so you can choose what works best for you.

The Warrior Wire will continue to be shared every other week with important updates, upcoming events, and celebrations from around Western. Our school website is also a great resource, and our front office team is always here to help.

We can’t wait to welcome our Warriors back and kick off another great year together. WE are Western!

Go Warriors!

To be officially enrolled for the 2026–2027 school year, all WLW families—even returning families—must complete online registration through Skyward Family Access. This is the first and most important step in the back-to-school process.

Online registration is now open and must be completed before your student can attend in-person registration. You’ll need a valid Skyward Family Access Parent ID and password to get started.

If you need help accessing your account, contact familyaccess@wlcsd.org or call (248) 956-2190 for assistance.

While in-person registration is encouraged on August 19th, it is not required as long as online registration has been completed, and students are prepared to take care of any outstanding fees or required tasks during the first week of school.

At in-person registration on 8/19, students can:
- Take school pictures and receive their student ID
- Purchase parking permits
- Pay fines or fees
- Walk the building

- Specific student schedules will not be distributed; however, students will receive a list of their classes and classroom locations, just not the order of their schedule.

Students who do not attend in-person registration will be able to complete these tasks during the first week of school.

FAMILY WELCOME LETTER (sent August 6, 2026)

Students and Families should park in the NORTH LOT and enter in the doors near the large Western side (Door 46).

We are very excited that your child will be attending Walled Lake Western High School and we look forward to meeting your student on Orientation Day. Following is some information to let you know what you and your student can expect during Freshman Orientation.

Freshman Orientation will take place on Thursday, August 20th from 9:00am-11:00 am. Students should enter from the South Lot at the Athletic Doors (near the football stadium).

Your child is encouraged not to bring backpacks, purses or other like items as they will be moving around quite a bit throughout the morning.

Because the day is active, please make sure that your child wears comfortable
clothing and shoes that do not restrict movement.

Electronic Devices at WLW - NEW Expectations!!! Electronic Devices at WLW - NEW Expectations!!!

This year, Western will continue our current cell phone expectations while making a few important updates to align with the new Michigan Law and support student well-being, safety, focus, and learning.

Key expectations for this year:

  • Cell phones will continue to be required to be placed in classroom phone caddies when students enter class.
  • Earbuds, headphones, smart watches, iPads/tablets, and other personal electronic devices must be put away and out of sight during instructional time.
  • All students will use their district-issued Chromebook as their device for classroom learning.
  • Personal devices may be used before school, during passing time, at lunch, and after school.
  • Personal electronic devices may never be used in restrooms or locker rooms.

We appreciate our families partnering with us to support these expectations.

Together, WE create a focused and engaging learning environment.

Student Schedules Student Schedules

Class schedules for the 2026–2027 school year will be available in Skyward beginning August 20. Students should check Skyward again on August 25 to ensure they are referencing their most up-to-date schedule for the first day of school on August 26.

Schedules have been created based on course selections made with counselors last spring. In some cases, alternate courses may have been assigned due to scheduling limitations.

Important: Counselors will not be available for individual schedule meetings during registration. However, students who believe a change is necessary may complete a Course Change Request Form, available at registration or in the Counseling Office.

Please note:

  • Schedule changes will only be made for the following reasons:

    • A hole in the schedule (missing class period)

    • Incorrect course placement (e.g., not enrolled in a required class)

  • Changes will NOT be made for:

    • Preference for a different hour or teacher

    • Change of mind about an elective

To request an appointment after registration, please call the Counseling Office at 248-956-4440 or email your counselor directly.

Attendance Matters: Every Day Counts Attendance Matters: Every Day Counts

Being at school and on time is one of the strongest predictors of student success. Consistent attendance keeps students connected to their learning, teachers, and school community. Whenever possible, we ask families to schedule travel and appointments outside of the school day and during scheduled school breaks.

New this year: Parents/guardians can report student absences directly through Skyward Family Access, which is now our preferred method for reporting an absence. Absences should be reported within two school days. Please remember that a parent-reported absence lets us know that the family is aware of the absence, but it does not remove the absence from the student’s attendance record.

A few important reminders:

  • Parent-reported and unreported absences count the same toward attendance totals.

  • Attendance is monitored by class period each semester, with communication and additional supports beginning as absences accumulate.

  • Western is a closed campus. Students may not leave during the school day without parent/guardian permission communicated to the attendance office.

  • Students participating in athletics must be in attendance for the school day to participate in practices or contests unless the absence is approved by administration.

Thank you for partnering with us to make regular, on-time attendance a priority. Every day in school is an opportunity to learn, connect, and succeed.

Student parking for the 2026–2027 school year will follow the same procedures as in years past. The cost is $100 for the full year or $25 per marking period if purchased later. Payment can be made through eFunds in Skyward, or by cash or check in the main office.

Students must complete the parking application included in the online registration packet. It is also available on our school website and in hard copy at the main office. A copy of the vehicle’s registration is required with the application.

This year, students will receive an adhesive parking sticker for their registered vehicle, indicating either North Lot or South Lot:

  • North Lot is reserved for OSTC students ONLY

  • All other students will park in the South Lot

A walkway connects the South Student Lot to the main entrance, making access to the building easy and safe.

Parking passes will be distributed during lunches the first week of school (not at registration).
