Classroom Updates
Earth Science with Ms. Ballantine
Hello scientists!
Welcome to your last full week of 6th grade! Next week students will be presenting their Interdisciplinary project on Oceania with Geography. Each group will have 5 minutes to present both their resolution for geography and their design/solution for science. Information and resources for the science side of the project are on Canvas. Next week will culminate with our end of year trip to Cameron Run water park on Friday where students will experience some human interactions with the water cycle.
Next week we will be cleaning out science binders-students will either keep their binders and dividers, throw them away if they are in too poor a condition, or donate them to my classroom for students next year who need a binder. Please let your student know if you want them to keep their science binder & notebook so it doesn’t accidentally get donated/recycled!
Math with Mr. Brown & Mr. Gawthrop
Math 6
This week students work on adding and subtracting positive and negative integers (with and without a number line). This coming week students will multiply integers and solve one step eequations with integers. Students will continue to be provided the opportunity to work on and retake recently taken assignments/projects during Advisory (or afterschool) at their request. Included in our virtual classroom is a link to a portion of the Illustrative Mathematics website curriculum dedicated to allowing parents to give support with current topics from home.
Math 7
This week, write and solve two step equations with variables on both sides and find the slope of an equation given a graph and a set of two points. This coming week students will continue calculating slope and write the equation of a line given the graph. Students will continue to be provided the opportunity to work on and retake recently taken assignments/projects during Advisory at their request. Included in our virtual classroom is a link to a portion of the Illustrative Mathematics website curriculum dedicated to allowing parents to give support of current topics from home.
Please encourage students to utilize the “Parking Lot” in class to leave questions or requests (ie. retake requests) Notes and videos on current/previous/upcoming concepts as well as supportive platforms can be found in the virtual classroom (www.framevr.io/brownmath)
Any and all questions concerning SMAC Program invitations should be sent (and will be forwarded) to DealSummerMath@k12.dc.gov
Thank you,
Language Arts with Ms. Byrns
We have made it to the home stretch! This week students completed the MAP end of year reading assessment. Additionally, we finished Beowulf and were able to map out Beowulf's entire "hero's journey."
Next week students will work on a project for their Hero's Journey book. These should be creative and engaging! You can see the options below.
Congrats to Aria D. and Lucas S. for completing the 40 Book Challenge! Yahoo!!!

Geography with Ms. Trenkle
This week in Geography(and science!) we worked on our interdisciplinary project! Ask your geographers about their resolution! They have been amazing as they learn how to write a resolution, the parts of a resolution, and writing collaboratively. Students will present their projects together in combined geography and sciences classes next week, starting on Monday. Students must have their resolution finished by Monday. Canvas has a soft copy of the packet we have been working on, as well as the slides from class, as well as reminders—check it out! At the end of next week students will have their final CEA Analysis to write in class.
