Dear Lead Mentors and Mentors:

Happy New Year! What a great time to reset ourselves for a fresh start! Kick off the new year by taking time with your mentee to check in on goals, reset if needed, and celebrate the accomplishments already achieved. With the return after the break, sit down with your new educators to help them close out the marking period and begin planning for the next. Students will likely need reminders about classroom routines and procedures, upcoming assessments, and time to reflect on their learning. What resources and strategies can you share with your mentees to help them transition back into their routines? For secondary, how can you help your mentees transition from one semester to the next? Ask your mentee about incorporating movement into learning for increased engagement and create an active learning environment that supports students' physical and cognitive well-being. By fostering a cooperative and engaging classroom environment, students will be supported to transition back into those routines and structures that provide them with a sense of safety and connectedness.

Lead Mentor Check-In

On November 29th, Lead Mentors shared ideas on fostering agency with our newest educators. We watched this short clip of Jaimie Meade recapping the cycle of hope and how it doesn't matter at what point we enter the cycle, we build our agency as we see our pathways to achieve. We also discussed how through hope, we diminish our response to the stress cycle, and I shared this from the book School of Hope by Cathleen Beachboard (available in the VRL): "Hope affects our mood, our environment, and most importantly, the colleagues and students we come in contact with." (p.74)
