RES Speech Treating
🍫"Trick-or-Treat." 🎃
Saying these three words is pretty is easy for most of us; however, these words are a communication task that some children struggle to complete independently.
On Friday, October 24, students in the Rockville Elementary School preschool classes participated in a trick-or-treating activity with staff members.
This activity allowed each student to have the support needed to be successful and participate in trick-or-treating. Some of the students do not communicate verbally so they were provided with ways to help them say trick or treat. Some could point to trick-or-treating on the bag they carried. A few students used talkers, which is an iPad that has a communication app that allows the student to push a button to say, “trick-or-treat”.
The children then enjoyed some activities in the classroom.

🎃Pumpkins!🥧
As a part of their fall and Halloween activities, the kindergarten and first-grade classes at Turkey Run Elementary School engaged in a hands-on learning experience through five different pumpkin-themed stations.
They participated in a STEM project inspired by the book “Five Little Pumpkins”, watched a video about the pumpkin life cycle, and tasted pumpkin pie. They also got creative by designing pumpkins and labeling their parts. This engaging event combined reading, science, and art, making learning about this holiday favorite both fun and educational.

Jacob Lapp (left)- “I am proud to recognize Jacob for his outstanding effort and positive contributions in English 9! He consistently works hard, stays engaged with our stories, and even reads ahead to prepare for class. What makes him stand out is his maturity- he never gives away spoilers, but instead uses his knowledge to enrich class discussions with thoughtful feedback. His dedication and respect for his classmates set an excellent example for others. Keep shining, Jacob!”
William DeVault (middle left)- “I have William DeVault in ICP. He works well with others and he has taken initiative to learn and study the elements that have been assigned for class. I was very impressed the other day when he was quizzing one of his classmates in class when they had completed other work. I love the modeling that he does with his classmates showing how team work and working together can benefit each other!”
Blake Ledcke (middle right)- “Blake is always very conscientious about his work in Advanced Biology. He is very polite to all students and will hold the door when everyone is leaving the classroom, Blake is such a gentleman. I really love having Blake in class.”
Arielle Hartman (right)- “Arielle is always great to have in class. She is not afraid to voice her ideas and contributes a great deal to the class discussions.”
Beckett Stemle (left)- “Over the course of the last couple of weeks I have seen a very definitive change in Beckett. He has taken his leadership role seriously and has done a great job leading by example as part of his Biology Team. He and his teammates have learned to work well together and have done a great job tackling a project that I know has challenged them and they have all risen to the challenge. I am very proud of them and it is exciting to see students grasp the hard things and come out with the sense of overcoming something that they didn’t think they could accomplish.
Mercedes Thompson (middle left)- “Mercedes always shows up with a positive attitude, and creates a great learning environment.”
Haley Holtsclaw (middle right) - “Haley is a great helper in my classroom! She is kind and always ready to work. She is a pleasure to have in class.”
Henry Busenbark (right)- “Henry has been my student helper for the past two years. He is excellent at this job and knows exactly what to do. He does a great job with the younger students by helping them understand material and procedures.”
