Hello Saints Families 🖤💔,

TOMORROW is the big day!! We cannot wait to see our K-5 Saints for their first day of the 2025-26 school year. PreK has a staggered start. Half will come tomorrow, half will come on Tuesday and ALL will come on Wednesday.

As a reminder, for safety reasons, no grown ups may walk their students to the classroom. Please consider the information below and HAPPY FIRST DAY!

With great thanks for your partnership,

Dr. Bullock, SMES School Principal

CAR RIDER 101

  • Efficiency is key for a SAFE and smooth car rider line.
  • School doors open at 7:30AM. No student should be dropped off prior to 7:30AM.

  • The car rider line loops the SMES side lot (by the pool). Students stay in their cars until the vehicle is safely stopped in one of the 5 numbered spaces adjacent to the school. (Mr. Buchkoski and Dr. Bullock will be outside helping cars line up during the first days.)

  • At each of those five spaces, an SMES staff member will be there to help your student exit the vehicle. If possible, please have your student exit from the passenger side of the vehicle so they are not walking between cars.

  • Have students ready with their book bag and other items ready to exit.

  • Practice getting in/out of their car seats independently (if your child is too young to do this independently, please try to be as quick as possible, as not to hold up the car rider line)

  • Parents may not walk students up to the car rider door in the morning. Parents may not walk to the car rider staff to pick up their children. This causes a break in the system of getting kids out of school and safely in vehicles. Safety must remain our number one priority.

  • AM drop off is between 7:30AM and 7:50AM. Students who are brought to school after 7:50AM will be marked late. A grown up must bring the late student into the front office to be signed in.

  • PM pick up is between 2:35PM and 2:50PM.

  • Display your student/s name clearly on the front windshield using the bright green car rider sign.

  • Your student will be called by radio to come and line up by the number where your vehicle will pull up. Staff members will be at each of the five numbered sports to help your student get back into the car safely.

  • Celebrate our school community team! The first days will likely be slower. We have students (and parents) doing this for the first time. Our new staff will also be learning our system. Let's work together with our fellow families and our Saints staff. We will only get better each day as we continue to work together and each do our part.

WALKERS 101

Families who live in walking distance to SMES may have students who are "walkers."

  • In the AM, walkers may be walked to, and enter, the front door of the school.
  • In the PM, the grown ups of the walker students should wait to meet their students at the sidewalk near the crossing guard. An SMES staff member will walk the "walker" students to this area to meet their grown up between 2:35PM-2:50PM.
  • Please note: staff members will ONLY be walking students to the sidewalk near the crossing guard. We should not have parents waiting in the area between the elementary school and the middle-high school.

BUS RIDERS 101

  • Bus routes may be accessed in Powerschool.
  • Any transportation request entered after the July 31 deadline may still be in the process of being assigned. Check Powerschool frequently for your student's route to be added.
  • Allow a 20 minute window (10 minutes before and 10 minutes after the assigned time) as the routes change with enrollment.
  • Please remind your student that it is important to stay seated while riding the bus and to follow the driver's instructions.

FROM THE OFFICE OF THE SCHOOL NURSE

Hello Saints, My name is Kara Brummell and I am your new SMES Nurse. I can’t express how excited I am to be back at my Alma matter where my son, nieces and nephews attend school. My most recent position allowed me to work here within the school so some of our fellow young Saints might recognize me. I’ve served in several nursing positions in different areas nursing, and I’ve appreciated the experiences. This is my first time being a school nurse so I do ask for some grace. I promise to do my best to keep all of children safe. Please come see me soon! GOOOO SAINTS!!!

Welcome to SMES for the 2026–2027 School Year! We hope you had a fantastic summer and are excited for the new school year! To help us keep your child safe and healthy, please review these important reminders from our Health Office.

💊 Medication Drop-Off Guidelines

If your student needs routine or over-the-counter (OTC) medication at school, please bring it in this week before classes start:

  • Medication Authorization Form: Every medication requires a completed form signed by both you and your child's doctor.

  • Prescription Medications: Must arrive in the original pharmacy bottle with a readable prescription label.

    • Tip: If your child also needs medication at home during weekends or breaks, ask your pharmacy to provide two labeled bottles (one for school, one for home).

  • Over-the-Counter (OTC) Medications: Must be brought in a brand-new, unopened original container.

📋 Health Conditions & Allergies

  • New or Existing Conditions: Please stop by this week to talk with the school nurse and turn in any relevant paperwork so our staff is fully prepared to care for your child.

  • Allergies & Updates: If your child has a known allergy—or has outgrown a previous allergy—please make sure we have updated forms on file to adjust their care plan safely.

  • General Health Info: Please share any health records or paperwork that will assist the nurse in caring for your child throughout the school year.
