Our Lady of the Mission
Whitford Parish - 31st May 2026
Message from Fr Cyprian
Greetings and peace be with you.
Fr Errol and I warmly welcome you here at Our Lady of the Mission, Whitford Parish, parishioners and visitors alike. We pray and hope that you feel truly safe and at home in this our place of prayer, worship and personal encounter with our risen Lord. May the Holy Spirit ever pray in us more than we can ever imagine and bind us together in the love of our Heavenly Father. Over fifty years, Whitford Catholic Parish remains home to dozens of nationalities represented by our parishioners and frequent visitors. We take pride in our young people; those in our parish primary and secondary schools, those enrolled in our Parish Religious Education Program (PREP) and our parish youth group. They are not just our future Church but a vital part of our Church today and now. We value these our young people and endeavour to have their voices heard at every level of our administrative and pastoral engagements. We are ever grateful to the many individuals and groups that volunteer in various ministries of our parish life. To one and all, know that you are valued and appreciated in your own right. We cannot be what we are without you. Together, we continue to seek ways in which we can generously respond to that universal call to holiness of life in our families, parish community and in the society at large. I invite you and all your loved ones to be purposeful in this resolve. We must leave no one behind, those within and those on the peripheries. As always, Fr. Errol and I thank one and all of you for your ongoing prayers, concern, encouragement and support. Rest assured of our daily thoughts and prayers. We entrust you and yours, into the powerful intercessions of our Blessed Virgin Mother of Good counsel, and into those of St Joseph, patron of the universal Church.
Fr Cyprian M Shikokoti - Parish Priest.

Adsumus
How can I share God’s love with my community?
This year, the Mass of the Most Holy Trinity coincides with the second week of our Adsumus journey. Through the Trinity, God reveals a profound truth that is both foundational to Christian faith and a spiritual mystery that unfolds in ever-widening circles of meaning and implication. Today, we begin to explore how the Trinity is at work in us and through us for the good of our church community.
Adsumus’ is Latin for ‘We stand before You,’ or more simply put, ‘Here we are!’
Yet there is much more to this ancient prayer. From 1962 to 1965, the Adsumus prayer opened every session of the Second Vatican Council, which was convened for the renewal of the whole Church. For centuries before that, the Adsumus prayer invoked the Holy Spirit’s guidance at Church assemblies, councils, and synods, and it has now been revived for our recent synodal gatherings.
Today we turn to the second line of the Adsumus prayer: ‘With you alone to guide us, make yourself at home in our hearts.’ We are reminded that Adsumus invites the Spirit to move our hearts and bring the prayer to life as we make it our own.
It is important to remember that Adsumus does not transform us without our awareness. Instead, it is a companion for our shared journey.
This Trinity Sunday, the mystery of God’s love invites each of our hearts to bring Adsumus to life in our community.
Death & Anniversary
Please offer your prayers this week for Mel Nerva, Reg Firth, Ann Codlin, Mary Marjorie Veloso, Marcelina Galamgam, Teresa Davies, Bill Catterson, Antoine Ve, Madeline Anh all souls in purgatory, those doctors, nurses and carers who have died while helping victims of accidents, disease and warfare, our recently departed loved ones and those whose anniversaries occur around this time.
Stewardship Corner
The Gospel today is sometimes called “the Gospel in miniature” because it so concisely sums up the Gospel message. In even more condensed form, “God loved…God gave…” is the paradigm for stewardship – we give because we love.
New Parishioner to our Parish?

READINGS AT MASS: THE MOST HOLY TRINITY YEAR A
First reading: Exodus 34:4-6,8-9
'Lord, Lord, a God of tenderness and compassion'
With the two tablets of stone in his hands, Moses went up the mountain of Sinai in the early morning as the Lord had commanded him. And the Lord descended in the form of a cloud, and Moses stood with him there. He called on the name of the Lord. The Lord passed before him and proclaimed, ‘Lord, Lord, a God of tenderness and compassion, slow to anger, rich in kindness and faithfulness.’ And Moses bowed down to the ground at once and worshipped. ‘If I have indeed won your favour, Lord,’ he said ‘let my Lord come with us, I beg. True, they are a headstrong people, but forgive us our faults and our sins, and adopt us as your heritage.’
Responsorial Psalm: Daniel 3:52-56
Response: Glory and praise for ever!
You are blest, Lord God of our fathers. R.
Blest your glorious holy name. R.
You are blest in the temple of your glory. R.
You are blest on the throne of your kingdom. R.
You are blest who gaze into the depths. R.
You are blest in the firmament of heaven. R.
Second reading: 2 Corinthians 13:11-13
The grace of Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
Brothers, we wish you happiness; try to grow perfect; help one another. Be united; live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with the holy kiss. All the saints send you greetings. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
Gospel Acclamation: Revelation 1:8
Alleluia, alleluia! Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit: to God who is, who was, and who is to come. Alleluia!
Gospel: John 3:16-18
God sent his Son so that through him the world might be saved
Jesus said to Nicodemus:
‘God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son,
so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost
but may have eternal life.
For God sent his Son into the world
not to condemn the world,
but so that through him the world might be saved.
No one who believes in him will be condemned;
but whoever refuses to believe is condemned already,
because he has refused to believe in the name of God’s only Son.’
WE PRAY AS ONE: ADSUMUS SANCTE SPIRITUS
We stand before You, Holy Spirit, as we gather together in Your name. With You alone to guide us, make Yourself at home in our hearts; Teach us the way we must go and how we are to pursue it. We are weak and sinful; do not let us promote disorder. Do not let ignorance lead us down the wrong path nor partiality influence our actions. Let us find in You our unity so that we may journey together to eternal life and not stray from the way of truth and what is right. All this we ask of You, who are at work in every place and time, in the communion of the Father and the Son, forever and ever, Amen.
POPE LEO XIV REFLECTIONS
Greetings, my brothers and sisters in Christ,
Today we celebrate one of the deepest mysteries of our faith: the Holy Trinity — one God in three Persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Many people think the Trinity is only a difficult theological idea. But today’s Gospel shows us something very beautiful and practical: the Trinity is not first a puzzle to solve, but a relationship of love into which we are invited. Jesus says: “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” These words reveal the heart of God. The Father is the source of love. He does not remain distant from humanity, but loves the world deeply with all its weakness and sin. Before we searched for him, he searched for us. God begins not with condemnation, but with love.
The Gospel also reveals the Son. The Father “gave” his Son to the world. Jesus is the visible face of God’s love. He came into our world, carried our suffering, forgave sinners, touched the sick, welcomed the rejected, and died on the cross for us. The cross is therefore not a sign of defeat, but the greatest revelation of divine love. In Jesus, God does not simply speak about love — he lives it. Even though the Holy Spirit is not mentioned directly in this passage, the Spirit is silently present. It is the Holy Spirit who opens our hearts to faith, helps us pray, strengthens us in difficult moments, and keeps the presence of Christ alive in the Church. Without the Holy Spirit, faith would remain only an idea; the Spirit transforms faith into life.
The Trinity also teaches us something important about human life. God himself is relationship. The Father loves the Son, the Son loves the Father, and the Holy Spirit is the bond of eternal love between them. This means that we are created not for selfishness or isolation, but for communion, love, and unity. One of the great sufferings of modern society is loneliness. Many people are surrounded by technology and yet feel deeply alone. Families sometimes live in the same house without truly speaking to one another. People carry wounds, resentments, and silent pain in their hearts. Trinity Sunday reminds us that love and communion are at the center of life itself.
A family reflects the Trinity when there is forgiveness instead of pride, listening instead of shouting, prayer instead of indifference, and sacrifice instead of selfishness. A parish reflects the Trinity when people support one another, work together, and welcome others with kindness. Even small acts — visiting the sick, helping a lonely neighbor, encouraging someone who is discouraged — become reflections of the life of the Trinity. Jesus also tells us in today’s Gospel: “God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him.” Many people live with fear: fear of failure, fear of judgment, fear that God has rejected them. But Jesus came not to destroy, but to save. Christianity is centered not on fear, but on grace and mercy.
The mystery of the Trinity is therefore not far away from daily life. Every time we make the Sign of the Cross — “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” — we proclaim the God who created us, saved us, and continues to guide us. We begin our Christian life in the Trinity at Baptism, and one day we hope to enter fully into the eternal communion of heaven. Trinity Sunday invites us not simply to think about God, but to live in the love of God. May our homes, our parish communities, and our hearts become living reflections of the Holy Trinity — places where love is shared, mercy is practiced, and faith becomes visible in daily life.
