Take 5 for Tech
Falling For MagicSchool AI (Feb. 2025)
MagicSchool AI- Not Just for Teachers
By now, you've hopefully had time to explore MagicSchool AI and see how it reduces time-consuming tasks and improves productivity. It's catching on with teachers district-wide. But did you know that it's not just a teacher tool? It's a premium tool for students too!
Yes, there's another distinct part of this tool and it's called MagicSchool for Students. Remember, all MagicSchool tools are made specifically for educational use, for teachers AND students. Students gain access to MagicSchool AI tools based on what their teachers want them to see. Here's how student rooms work.
- Teachers create student-friendly digital "rooms" equipped with custom tools.
- Students craft their work based on the tools given to them in the student room.
- Teachers review student work during and after MagicSchool use since it keeps a record of their drafts everytime they use it.
This now in! Magic School has now integrated RAG technology, or Retrieval-Augmented Generation technology, that interacts with large information systems like databases, large data sets or searches. This means that you can now upload large documents like CTE manuals, curriculum guides, handbooks, pacing guides and policies to create custom tools. So cool!

Ways to Use Student Rooms:
You don't know how to use student rooms in your class? Here's a list of possibilities:
- Prepare for a Semester Exam (Students ask questions to clarify and reteach from the chatbot you customize with notes and other content already fed into the tool.)
- Engage in rap battles between historical characters (Students supply the "important information about the people in the batttle.)
- Give student writing feedback (Students insert their writing and the writing feedback tools gives bulleted suggestions of how they can improve their draft.)
- Break down a process into more manageable steps or directions (Students explain or describe a process and it's broken down further to make things more precise.)
- Take specialized text and convert it to easier to understand content. (Students upload technical content they are struggling to understand.)
- Have students create a quiz over the material they need to know for a unit to see if they're ready for the assessment. (Students upload notes they need to understand for an assessment and it will creat a test or quiz to evaluate understanding.)
- Help students brainstorm ideas (Students describe the scope of the issue or topic, tell what ideas they've already come up with and ask it to come up with new ideas.
Other Notable Qualities & Resources:
- Teachers have complete control over what tools are accessible to students.
- At any time, rooms can be paused or locked.
- Sharing is easy with a URL or QR code. (This is how Canvas users would do it.)
- Rooms are quickly integrated into Google Classroom as a Google Assignment.
- Upon joining MagicSchool, students are prompted to acknowledge ethical AI use.
- Teachers can easily share a room so others can duplicate it for their own classes.
