Here Comes the Bus!
Beginning January 9th, 2023
Here Comes The Bus:
North Penn Transportation plans to launch the Here Comes Bus app to the rest of the district on January 9, 2023, when returning from the holiday break.
After a successful launch at Oak Park Elementary, here are some important measures to take to ensure the success of this program. Additionally, here are some features that the app has that will help streamline communications through transportation.
Steps to Take:
- 1st - 6th graders need to start carrying their student IDs with them to scan on and off the bus. Our Kindergarten students will be bringing home their ID number on an index card instead.
- Parents will still be able to see where the bus is on the app, even if their child forgets their ID.
- Scan student IDs typically 2 - 3 inches away from the scanner. We have discovered if there are scratches on a plastic ID cover or anything potentially covering the bar code, or a smaller bar code, is more difficult to scan than an ID that has a larger bar code and no plastic cover over it.
- This video, Here Comes the Bus Parent Tutorial contains helpful Instructions on how to sign up for the app. You will need code 29986 (Public) or 29992 (Special Education) to set up your Here Comes the Bus app.
- When you are ready to signup for the Here Comes the Bus app, please ask your child/children to provide you with their student ID number (log-in number/computer number) to streamline the process.
- You will need a smartphone or tablet to set this up. Download the Here Comes the Bus app in the Apple or Google Play store.
- Click the “Sign Up” button
- Select “I have the code”
- Enter school code 29986 (Public) or 29992 (Special Education) along with First and Last name, & email address. Contact your school if you have any questions regarding which code to choose.
- Complete the “User Profile” box
- Under “My Students,” click “Add.” Enter your child’s last name and student ID number
- Once you confirm your information, you’re ready to begin.
Please note that some families may need two logins if you have a student who is on a public bus and one that is on a Special Education bus. You cannot be logged into both accounts at the same time on the app.
Features:
- When within a mile radius of the child’s stop picking up in the morning and dropping off in the afternoon, parents will receive a push notification and email that the bus is within the radius.
- The Transportation Office will be able to send direct communication to parents on specific buses or a group of buses if a bus has been delayed for any reason.
- Bus drivers will be able to select students at their bus stop on their tablet that they are riding the bus if students forget their ID, or if a student is unable to scan their ID themself.
- When in a substitute bus for the day due to the regular bus being out of service, parents will receive a notification automatically when a driver signs into a new bus.
- App support available for parents can be found here at HCTB App Support.
