Here's What's Happening in October

  • October 31: Halloween

We made it!

The first quarter is officially in the books, and we are proud of the learning, growth, and connections happening across Mesa Verde Middle School. Whether your student had a fantastic quarter or faced a few challenges, the start of a new quarter offers an opportunity to reflect, reset, and refocus.

So, what comes next?

Check in on progress. Take a few minutes to review your student’s grades and missing assignments in Canvas. Celebrate successes and identify areas where additional support may be needed.

Build strong habits. Consistent routines, organized materials, regular use of a planner, and completing assignments on time can make a big difference in academic success.

Have the conversation. Ask your student what went well this quarter, what challenged them, and what they want to improve. Sometimes, a simple conversation can lead to meaningful growth.

Reach out early. If your student is struggling, connect with their teachers. We are partners in your student’s success, and working together early can help prevent small challenges from becoming bigger obstacles.

At Mesa Verde, we believe growth is about more than a grade. It is about learning from mistakes, building resilience, and developing the confidence to keep moving forward. Our FLIGHT Expectations remind us to Invest in Learning, Grow Responsibly, and Together We Thrive.

Thank you for being an important part of our MVMS family.

Let’s make the second quarter a great one!

Stay RAD!

MVMS Purple Envelope Fundraiser MVMS Purple Envelope Fundraiser

Click HERE to Donate to the MVMS Purple Envelope Fundraiser

Your student(s) should be coming on Monday with a Purple Envelope packet with additional information about the fundraiser, why it’s so important, and how you can donate. We need your support to help our California Distinguished School continue to shine! Please see below for some additional details.

The fundraiser will be collecting donations online and in the mornings at the front gate between 7:30 - 8:05, Monday October 19 through Friday October 23.

Volunteers will be out every morning at the front gate. A collection box will be in the front office for students or parents to drop off envelopes/donations.

Online donations will go through our pledge drive platform, Zeffy. You can access the donation page by clicking the button above.

Many employers offer donation matching, so please check with your employer.

Here are our goals for this year:

  • Raise a minimum of $100,000

  • Have at least 50% of the student body participate in the fundraiser

Students are encouraged to send emails to friends and family, neighbors, parents’ coworkers, etc.

Why do we need the Eagle Envelope Fundraiser?

School budgets cuts have a directly impacted funds that contribute to classroom supplies, furniture needs, extracurricular and enrichment activities, etc. The MVMS Foundation Eagle Envelope Fundraiser supports: teacher supplies, books, and material budgets. The MVMS Foundation supports teachers by donating $450 directly to each classroom.

Additional things the MVMS Foundation is looking to fund:

  • Online Subscriptions

  • Band & Clubs

  • Physical Education

  • Drama, Arts and Electives

  • Science Supplies

  • Library and Social Support

  • School spirit, student support, and ASB

  • Sound system for promotion, and other activities (stretch goal!)

We are so lucky to have an incredibly supportive and involved parent community, and we thank you, in advance, for your donations and for helping spread the word to help us raise much needed funds for Mesa Verde! And I’d like to give a special thank you to the ASB and to our parent volunteers in the Foundation (and their students) and PTSA who have done so much work behind the scenes to make this fundraiser happen!

Trunk or Treat at MVMS Trunk or Treat at MVMS

We're excited to share that Team Mesa Verde (PTSA and Foundation) is teaming up with ASB for this year's Halloween Party on Friday, October 30th, starting at 4:30 PM! To make it extra special, our parent volunteers will be hosting a Trunk-or-Treat alongside the party, and collaborating with ASB students to build a haunted house — bringing even more festive, spooky fun for our students.

To pull this off, we need 50 trunks to make sure every student at the party gets the full trunk-or-treat experience. That's where you come in!

Here's how you can help:

Host a trunk — decorate your car, bring candy, and join the fun on the 30th. It's a great way to get involved and see the students' excitement up close.

Can't host a trunk? No problem — you can donate candy instead, which will go a long way toward offsetting the costs of the trunks we do have.

We'll also need hands-on help building the haunted house alongside ASB students — if you enjoy crafting, decorating, or just want to help bring some spooky magic to life, we'd love to have you join that effort too.

Short on time but still want to pitch in? Consider sponsoring the event to help cover candy and haunted house materials.

Every trunk, every bag of candy, every volunteer, and every sponsor gets us closer to making this the most festive Halloween party Mesa Verde has seen. We'd love to have you be part of it!

In order to comply with the school-wide Chromebook usage policy, students will no longer be permitted to use Chromebooks in the library during the lunch periods. Additionally, the library will be encouraging a quieter environment to promote an environment more suitable for reading, learning, and relaxing. We are excited to make these changes in order to best serve all students at Mesa Verde!

Thank you for your continued support of the library! We are once again running low on our craft supplies, and we would appreciate donations to keep giving students the opportunity to create!

The Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) began at Mesa Verde Middle School to strengthen the partnerships between families, teachers and staff, and students. The focus is on supporting students in their academic, social-emotional, and wellbeing needs. PTSA meets on a regular basis with the administration, ASB director, and Foundation to ensure we are all working together to serve MVMS.

Attendance and OCIS Contracts: If you have a student who will not be in class for 5-14 days, please notify the office so we can have the parents fill out an OCIS contract for their child. The forms will have to be completed and signed by parents 5-10 days in advance of the absence. If you and your child would like to contract the OCIS, please contact the attendance office.

Parents are required to give
5 days notice for absences up to 5 days, 10 days notice for absences more than 5 days.

Prepping work for students who are absent is an incredible amount of work for our teaching staff and we ask that you give your child’s teacher as much advance notice as possible beyond the above guidelines.

We do not write contracts beyond 14 days. If you plan to be away for 15 or more days please contact the Office for the necessary procedures.

Attendance: To report your child's absence or early checkout, please notify l the attendance office at before 10:00 am on the day of the absence. Please refer to the attendance section of our Mesa Verde website for protocols regarding reporting student absences and requesting early release for your student.'

California Education Code 48205 states that a student may be excused legally from school when the absence is due to:

  • Personal illness or injury
  • Quarantine under the direction of a county or city health office
  • Medical, dental, or chiropractic services
  • Attendance at funeral services for a member of the immediate family
  • Justifiable personal reasons, including, but not limited to, an appearance in court, observance of a holiday or ceremony of his or her religion, attendance at religious retreats, attendance at an employment conference, when the pupil's absence has been requested in writing by the parent and approved by the principal or designated representative
  • For the purpose of serving as a member of a precinct board for an election
  • Exclusion for failure to present evidence of immunization
  • Exclusion from school because student is either the carrier of a contagious disease or not immunized for a contagious disease
