HOT DOG CHATTER May 7, 2026
Frankfort High School Engineering and Automotive Juniors and Seniors competed at the annual Purdue evGrand Prix electric go kart race. Kevin Lopez Lopez, our rookie driver, performed with confidence and grace under a high amount of pressure, supported by a team of 9 other engineering students. We had 5 people timing his laps and giving driving feedback on the toughest corners. Kevin went from a time of 35 seconds to a low 32.22 by the end of the day, getting a 4th place in the B heat. Our pit crew of Mateo Valdez Vasques, Daniel Martinez Mendoza, and Korbin Webster made several timely decisions that greatly helped Kevin achieve quicker lap times, making him competitive as a rookie driver. One improvement was changing the width between the front tires to make turning require less force. The team also tested multiple tire pressures to increase the kart's grip on the track. Our track worker, Zander Ford, kept drivers safe and networked with other teams, using his friendly charm and dashing personality. Wonderful job to the student racing team setting the pace for future engineering/automotive classes. They were the first students to pilot our racing unit and did it with class.
