Maple Grove Fox Report

November 3rd, 2025

Maple Grove FoxReportNovember 3rd, 2025

Principal's Corner Principal's Corner

As the leaves fall and the air turns crisp, November gives us the perfect reminder to pause and reflect on what we’re grateful for. At Maple Grove, there’s no shortage of reasons to give thanks.

We’re grateful for our incredible students, whose curiosity, kindness, and creativity fill our school with energy and joy every day. We’re grateful for our staff, who go above and beyond to nurture not only academic growth but also the hearts and character of our learners. And we’re grateful for our families and community, whose ongoing support helps make Maple Grove such a special place to learn and grow.

This time of year also reminds us of the importance of showing gratitude in small, everyday ways—whether it’s saying “thank you,” offering a helping hand, or sharing a kind word. Just like we teach our CRISP traits, being grateful builds connection, respect, and stewardship within our school family.

As we move through this season of thankfulness, let’s continue to lift one another up and notice the good around us—because at MGCS, there’s plenty to be thankful for!

Wishing you all a warm and wonderful November filled with gratitude and joy.

With appreciation,
Robin Hanson

At a Special School Board Meeting held on October 15, 2025, the Athens Board of Education was asked to consider approving the selection of a vendor to conduct a feasibility study for the School District of Athens. Following discussion, the Board decided to request additional information from the prospective vendors before making a final selection. The Board of Education is expected to reach a final decision following a special board meeting scheduled for Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at 5 p.m.

Why School Districts Collaborate with Business Partners for Feasibility Studies: Background and Context

A feasibility study for school districts is a comprehensive analysis to determine if a proposed project, such as a new facility, renovation, or district reorganization, is viable and beneficial. It assesses various factors including educational needs, financial implications, and potential challenges, ultimately guiding decision-making for the school board and community.

A feasibility study is a critical precursor to facilities planning, allowing decision-makers to identify potential issues, uncover potential challenges, and it provides valuable data for decision-making. A feasibility study offers hard data and insights that empower leaders to make smarter, more responsible investment decisions. A thorough feasibility study serves as a strong, evidence-based foundation, demonstrating that the project has been carefully evaluated and validated.

The purpose of a Feasibility Study is multifaceted and encompasses several key components.

Evaluate Project Viability:
Feasibility studies help determine if a project is realistically achievable, considering factors like costs, resources, and potential challenges.

Inform Decision-Making:
They provide a comprehensive report to help school boards and communities make informed decisions about the future of their educational facilities and programs.

Identify Alternatives:
Studies explore various options, including construction, renovation, and alternative solutions like regionalization or consolidation, to find the most cost-effective and educationally sound approach.

Assess Educational Needs:
They evaluate current and future educational needs of the district, including enrollment projections and program requirements.

Consider Long-Term Impact:
Studies analyze the long-term implications of a project on students, staff, and the community, including financial sustainability.

Why is a feasibility study necessary for facilities planning? It clarifies and validates project goals. The process forces an organization to define the project's scope, objectives, and desired outcomes, ensuring the plan is well-defined and aligns with strategic goals.

As part of the School District of Athens Strategic Plan, Pillar #3: Facilities and Operations focuses on providing safe, healthy, and efficiently operated schools to support student success and uphold accountability to all stakeholders. One of the key objectives, Goal 3, is to streamline sustainable building operations. To support this goal, the district will undertake a Feasibility Study, which will help assess current infrastructure and guide future improvements aligned with long-term sustainability and operational efficiency.

Friendly Reminder: No Trading Cards or Gifts at School

We kindly ask that students do not bring trading cards, toys, gifts, or similar items to school. These items can easily become lost, damaged, or cause distractions and hurt feelings. To help keep our school environment focused and positive for everyone, please make sure these items stay at home.

Thank you for your understanding and support in helping us create a great learning space for all learners!

🥛 Extra Milk Reminder

We’ve noticed that several learners have been requesting an extra milk at lunchtime. If a learner asks, we are allowing them to have the additional milk, and the cost is charged to their lunch account.

If you prefer that your child not receive an extra milk, please contact Mrs. Plisch in the office, and we’ll make sure to note that for your learner.

Weather is Changing

With the changing weather please make sure you send your child with warm enough clothes to be outside for up to 90 min at a time with our Friday Labs, including mittens and a hat. If you can, please also send them with some rubber boots if they plan to play in the woods or mud as we are starting to track lots of mud inside.

Reading Logs

At Maple Grove, we believe that kids still need to be kids when they go home at night. That’s why we keep homework to a minimum. However, reading is always a priority. We ask that all learners either be read to, read on their own, or read with someone else each night. Seeing you read at home is also one of the best ways to spark and sustain their love of reading.

Each month, learners will meet with their classroom teacher to set a reading goal that is both realistic and challenging. If the goal doesn’t feel like the right fit for your child, please reach out so we can adjust it together.

We ask parents to:

Record the minutes read each day on the reading calendar.

Sign the log weekly.

Return it at the end of the month.

Learners who meet their goals every two months will take part in an all-school reading incentive. Those who do not will use that time in another classroom to catch up on their reading minutes.

Together, let’s make reading a joyful and daily habit for all our learners!

We’re looking for volunteers to make our Chili Supper a success!

We need help with:

🥣 Bringing chili ingredients
🪣 Set-up, serving, and clean-up
🏆 Cook-off competitors — bring one batch of your best chili for guests to sample and vote for a chance to win the Golden Ladle Award!

Our Amazing Library Volunteers

Your children may have mentioned to you the names Ms. Emily and Ms. Taylor. These two amazing ladies volunteer their time both Tuesday and Friday mornings to check-in books and shelve them in our library. They also do the checkout for each grade level. That's not all, they have created personalized MGCS bookmarks and gave each student a Halloween treat. We are so thankful for ALL these two ladies are doing for the Little Red Schoolhouse!
