Fall ballot will include constitutional amendment on Minnesota school funding

Early voting for the Nov. 2026 Election Day has begun in Minnesota, and voters may be hearing more about the Permanent School Fund amendment on the ballot this year.

Did you know the Permanent School Fund has been in existence since Minnesota became a state in 1858? The amendment seeks to update the fund's distribution formula without raising taxes or fees. This proposed change was recommended by a non-partisan committee after a year of study, and it has seen broad bi-partisan support among the state's legislators. Learn more about how the Permanent School Fund works.
