IMPORTANT PARKING LOT REMINDERS
Thank you for your continued partnership in keeping our campus safe and running smoothly. Recently, we’ve experienced a few traffic situations that have slowed dismissal and raised safety concerns. We truly appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe, efficient process for all students, families, and staff.
Please take a moment to review and support the following expectations:
- Please follow posted traffic routes to help keep vehicles moving safely.
- To prevent congestion, avoid parking in red zones or leaving vehicles unattended.
- For everyone’s safety, please avoid U-turns in or near crosswalks.
- Our Safety Service Patrol students are doing important work—thank you for treating them with respect and kindness by stopping at signs, waiting at crosswalks, and following their directions.
- While Safety Patrol is on duty, please refrain from making left turns out of the parking lot.
- To help keep staff parking available, visitors and volunteers are asked to park in designated visitor spaces or on nearby streets.
- Please keep the area in front of the large gate at the end of the parking lot clear, as this space is reserved exclusively for buses.
Thank you for helping us keep our school community safe and orderly—we truly appreciate your support.
POSITIVITY PROJECT
Dear Families,
This week, our school community will focus on the character strength of Love. Love means you value close relationships with others and being close to people.
Love is shown through our thoughts, feelings, and actions toward those we care about. When we love someone, we comfort them, make them feel safe, support them during tough times, and often put their needs before our own. When someone loves us, we feel safe and secure and can be ourselves around them. We miss them when they are not around.
Love is important for our community and society. We all depend on each other for happiness and well-being. Love creates positive feelings, helping to reduce loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Without love, we can't form strong bonds with our families, friends, or communities. A world without love would be a lonely and unsafe place.
To practice and encourage the character strength of love at home, please visit The Positivity Project’s mobile-friendly P2 for Families (available in English and Spanish), where you will watch a video together and discuss a quote and three questions. Below are links to this week’s P2 for Families lessons. Click on the grade level that best meets your child’s needs.
Thank you for your support!
2026-27 ENROLLMENT
New Student Enrollment
Poway Unified New Student Enrollment for the 2026-27 school year begins on Monday, February 2, 2026 at 8:00AM and closes on Feb. 28th. Please forward this information to families new to the area or our school district. This enrollment period includes new students who will be enrolling in Preschool through High School.
We can’t wait to meet our new families! New Student Enrolment for Poway Unified School District is an online process. Packets are completed digitally using any computer, tablet or smartphone with an internet connection. Please contact your assigned school of residence to schedule an appointment if you do not have access to a device/internet or need assistance with completing the online enrollment packet.
The 2026-2027 school year is scheduled to begin for all students on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. Welcome to PUSD! For more information about our schools and programs, visit our website.
Transitional Kindergarten (TK) and Kindergarten Information
If a school reaches near capacity for TK or Kindergarten, a lottery may be needed to determine student placement. To be included in the lottery (if required), families must submit their new student enrollment packets between February 2, 2026, and February 13, 2026, by 11:59 p.m. Only students who enroll during this period will be eligible. If a lottery is necessary at our school, families will be notified. The district conducts the lottery for each site.
2026-2027 Transfer Information
The Poway Unified transfer window opens on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at 8 a.m. If you live within the Poway Unified boundaries and want your child to attend a school different than your assigned school, submit your Intradistrict Transfer (IDT) request online through the Transfers page on the PUSD website. (This includes siblings of current students.) Please make sure to still enroll your child at their assigned school of residence when new student enrollment opens on Monday, February 2, 2026. Transfer requests can only be processed once your child is enrolled in their school of residence. The Intradistrict Transfer request window will close on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
YOUNG AMERICAN POETRY CONTEST
Are you a poet and don't know it? Here's your chance to become a published poet in the Young American Poetry Digest. Please read the attached flyer for more details. All submissions must be postmarked by April 3, 2026.
Take-Home Meals for Students Fasting for Ramadan
The USDA approved California’s request to allow students fasting during Ramadan to take school meals home. Between February 23 and March 19, 2026, PUSD students who are fasting for Ramadan may pick up bagged, shelf-stable meals from their school cafeteria during the meal period, and bring them home for later. Parents/guardians must pre-register students for this option. Meals will be limited to foods and beverages that do not require refrigeration, so variety will be limited. Pre-registered students can choose to either eat the regular meals offered at school, or take home bagged meals for later, but not both.
If your child(ren) will be fasting during Ramadan and you would like to register them for take-home meals, please complete the online form by Wednesday, February 11, 2026: Ramadan Meals Registration Form.

February is Library Lover’s Month so we’re kicking it off by reading the California Young Reader Medal nominated books. CYRM is a reading program in which students all over California participate. These books are recommended by children and nominated by committee members. Every January at Westwood, we start off the new year by reading books that have been nominated and there is a school-wide vote after we finish reading all five books. If you’re looking for your next good read, I recommend these books. Click HERE for more information. Here are the books students will be voting on. The following are the books we’ll be reading over the next few weeks.
Please support the library and your child’s love of reading by purchasing new hardcover books. Here’s a link: Amazon Wish List. Donated books will have a book plate in the front of the book with your child’s name and they’ll have first check out privileges.
The used book sale will be held every Thursday, unless it’s raining, just outside the library. Proceeds of the sale go to buying books that students are asking for. It’s a great way to support the library. Only 25 cents a book!
Donations are welcomed! Please donate gently used hardcover children’s books appropriate for TK-5 grade students, jigsaw puzzles appropriate for elementary-aged students or Kleenex. You can drop them off in the library with a note.

Wishing your family a happy Valentine’s Day!

CELEBRATE EVERY ABILITY - COMMUNITY RESOURCE FAIR & FAMILY FUN DAY
Join us for a fun-filled day connecting with your community!
Parent Ambassadors of Special Education, in collaboration with local community partners, invite families of students with disabilities to the Community Resource Fair & Family Fun Day on Saturday, February 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Old Poway Park (14134 Midland Road, Poway, CA 92064).
