🐻 MIT First General Meeting - Monday September 15
Our first MIT General Meeting will be at 6:30 PM on Monday, September 15, at the school library. All parents are invited to attend, in-person or via Zoom.
Attendees can park in the bus loop and staff parking, since it's after school hours.
Come early and get your volunteer badge photo taken and stay for the meeting. We'll be voting on this year's budget. The principal will be giving a Principal's Report. Meet your MIT board!
We will also present a special one-time funding request, as well as introduce all of the teams and volunteer opportunities. This meeting is an important opportunity to find out more about MIT and all of our programming for the school throughout the year.
What is MIT?
Madrona Integrated Team (MIT) is a non-profit, charitable corporation whose purpose is to support and enhance the experience of Madrona School students by sponsoring educational and related family programs, as well as enrichment activities for our students. It is similar to a PTA, but operates as its own non-profit and is not affiliated with the PTA. There is no fee to join; all Madrona students, staff, teachers and parents are automatically members. MIT is run by an elected volunteer board of directors and is responsible for raising money for use in the classrooms and throughout school as well as for creating a community through events.
🆘 Help Needed for Madrona Kids Fund & Grants!
We have a few key positions that need to be filled in order for certain events to run smoothly. Training is available for both positions.
Madrona Kids Fund Co-lead. September - October. This is our main fundraiser for the year. We really need another person to help run it. Last year we had very little help and don't want a repeat of that.
Madrona Grants Lead. 3 times a year, one time each quarter. Go though the submitted proposals and clarify anything that needs to be clarified. Gather a team and distribute to them the proposals that meet the grant submission criteria.
If you are interested or have questions please email me at mitvicechair@gmail.com. Please reach out to the chair at mitparentchair@gmail.com or the vice chair at mitvicechair@gmail.com if you’re interested.

💻 New digital form for MIT Scholarships
The Madrona Integrated Team (MIT) understands that the costs associated with school may be a hardship for some families. The MIT community has determined that it is important to support our community during this time.
The fees covered by the Scholarship Program include:
- Supply fees (also available under Free and Reduced Lunch benefits)
- One ticket to Bear Scare
- One Enrichment class per year
- Two tickets to a Madrona Children's Theatre show
- Field trip fees (also available under Free and Reduced Lunch benefits)
- One yearbook & one pen
Anyone who thinks the cost of these items may be a hardship for their family should apply.
The new MIT Scholarship form is live. It's all digital. You should receive some information about this from your teachers as well.
Note the information received is confidential and only goes to our Office Manager, Kim Zimmerman. MIT does not have access to the information.

🥾 More Info about Trail from Woodway!
We got some more information about the best trail from Woodway Center, and we wanted to share it with the wider Madrona community. Thank you to Kelly Haller for the detailed writeup and her permission for us to share it, as well as for marking the trail to help fellow Madrona parents!
"This map shows the dicey/steep trail which leads to the opening in the fence near the parking lot (top), and the meandering trail which is well-maintained (bottom). I marked the maintained trail with little white flags today, so it’s easy to tell which direction to go along the way."
Here are photos of the trail that is well-maintained. It has a lot of off-shoots and it is not well-marked, so it’s understandable why a lot of us didn’t find it at first.
This trail ends at the fence line behind the track. There is a gate there, but it’s been unlocked every time we have come & gone so far (unlike the gate at the dead end of 240th street, which has been locked at pick up time).
🚌 School Bus Info
Given the parking lot situation, we have been seeing a lot of questions about school buses.
You can find out all of the information about schedules, and who to contact if you have questions, by using the school district busing app. Click the button below for more info!
If your child loses something on the bus, first check with the bus driver. They may have it or have given it to the office at Madrona. If not, you can call the District Transportation Center and ask to check their lost and found.
Electronics typically go directly to the District Transportation Center for safekeeping. The Transportation Center is located at 20601 52nd Ave in Lynnwood, and their phone number is (425) 431-7230
🍔 Welcome Back BBQ and Volunteer Fair CANCELLED
Due to lack of parking and other logistical issues, the Welcome Back to School BBQ, Volunteer Fair, & Movie Night has been cancelled.
MIT is working on another way to get the community together. We will let everyone know as soon as we know more. We appreciate your understanding.

If you or anyone you know would like to receive updates on what is happening at Madrona and how you might be able to get involved, you can sign up for the MIT Newsletter on our website.
A Note from Your MIT Communications Coordinator
Hi! I'm Dan Hart, your friendly neighborhood MIT Communications Coordinator. I will be responsible for sending the weekly MIT newsletter on Sundays. My goal is to continue to keep this newsletter fresh, fun to read, and informative for the whole Madrona community!
You may notice that this email is a little lighter on images than usual. After some feedback, we've decided to move away from the use of AI images as part of our newsletter theme (other than when they are used as the graphic for a specific event). Instead, we'll be coordinating with the centers and Spark! to include student artwork in the newsletter. Watch for this in the near future!
🎁 Feedback is always a gift, and I invite you to give us the gift of your feedback!
Please email me with feedback and suggestions including, but not limited to:
- What do you like
- What could improve
- Suggest a theme
- Any other feedback or suggestions!
Contribute to This Newsletter
Do you have an article you’d like included in our weekly email? Please email your blurb to Beth at MITCommCoordinator@gmail.com or submit online by Friday at noon to be included the edition going out that Sunday. Please include if you’d like the article to run for multiple weeks.
