School Is In Full Swing!

Thank you for sending your child to Jimmy Brown Elementary. We are off to a great start and the students and staff are already working hard. It is such a pleasure to see their smiling faces each day. I hope that you have been able to get back in the routine of school with ease.

Children benefit the most when school and parents partner together. The ways you may learn about what is happening at school are to read the school and classroom newsletters, review the assignment planners, check Take Home folders, review graded work, and check your child's HAC account for current progress. To ask specific questions, you may contact your child's teacher through email, Class Dojo, Remind, grade level Facebooks, or by sending a note.

All students in grades K-5 are now taking the beginning of the year iReady assessments in math and reading. These scores help us plan instruction and meet the needs of individual students. We will take iReady diagnostics three times during the school year. Our goal for each child is to meet their projected growth. You will be given these reports at Parent/Teacher Conferences on September 18.

Attendance Matters

DID YOU KNOW?

• Starting in preschool and kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school.

• Missing 10%, or about 2 days each month over the course of a school year, can make it harder to learn to read.

• Students can still fall behind if they miss just 1 or 2 days every few weeks.

• Being late to school may lead to poor attendance.

• Absences and tardiness can affect the whole classroom if the teacher has to slow down learning to help children catch up

What is a STAR Student at JBE?

At JBE we like to recognize our STAR students (Students That Are Remarkable!) each nine weeks!

What makes a student a STAR?

  • Citizenship - STAR students showcase outstanding citizenship in all areas of JBE. These students receive ZERO office referrals and no more than one ticket per nine weeks.
  • Attendance - STAR students make every effort to attend school on a regular basis. STAR students miss no more than 2 days per nine weeks.

STAR Students receive recognition each nine weeks from their classroom teacher and at awards assemblies held twice per year. We also recognize students who achieve the STAR status each nine weeks at the end of the year.

For more information on STAR Citizens, please refer to page 11 of the JBE Handbook which can be found on the Star City Schools website.

JBE SCHOOL STORE

The JBE School Store is open for business! Students can visit Mrs. Tina in the big office before school starts each day to purchase school supplies. Shoppers need at least $1 to make a purchase.
