Capitol Hill Weekly Update
8/21/26
Message from the Principal
It has been wonderful to have our teachers back in the building this week, preparing classrooms and getting ready to welcome students! We are looking forward to seeing our families on the first day of school, Wednesday, August 26.
A special warm welcome to the families who are new to Capitol Hill! We are welcoming over 60 new students so far this year, including our new kindergarteners, and we are so happy to have you joining our community.
We can't wait to see everyone next week!
In service to students,
Febe Armendariz
Principal
Welcoming New Staff
We are excited to welcome two new members to the Capitol Hill team this year!
Katharine Anderson, 5th Grade Teacher
Cilicia Hatch, Administrative Assistant I
We are so happy to have Katharine and Cilicia joining our community and look forward to the care, talents, and experience they will bring to our students, families, and staff.
Class Lists Are Published
Class lists are now available in ParentVUE! Our homeroom teachers, interventionists, specialists, SPED team, and administration worked collaboratively to create balanced classes where students can find connection and belonging and thrive in a productive learning environment.
If you have any trouble accessing ParentVUE or finding your child’s class placement, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office staff. We’re happy to help!
Staying Connected
Our school newsletter goes out every Friday with important updates, reminders, events, and opportunities. Homeroom teachers also send a monthly classroom newsletter.
Principal Coffees are held monthly at 8:10 a.m., typically during the first week of the month. We’ll send a reminder the Monday before.
ParentSquare is our primary communication platform. Please activate your account and choose your preferred language and notification settings so you don’t miss important messages.

Routes for Drop-Off and Pick-up
As we begin the school year, we're asking families who drive to school to help us create a safer and smoother drop-off and pick-up by approaching Capitol Hill from the same direction.
Please follow this route for morning drop-off and pick-up:
1. Do not turn onto SW 17th Ave. if you’re coming from SW Spring Garden St., instead turn onto SW 14th Ave. heading west.
3. Continue past SW Carson St. Please leave Carson clear for students and families walking to school.
4. Turn right onto SW Hume Ct. and head north.
5. Turn left onto SW 17th Ave. and continue east toward the school.
6. Drop off at Capitol Hill with traffic flowing in the same direction.
Please do not turn from SW Spring Garden directly onto SW 17th Ave. during arrival, whether you are approaching from the north or south.
Having cars approach the school from the same direction will make arrival more predictable and safer for students walking, biking, and getting out of cars. Please continue to watch carefully for pedestrians and yield to students and families crossing the street.
Thank you for helping us establish this routine from the very beginning of the year. I appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as we get our arrival systems running smoothly!
We could also use a few parent volunteers during the first week of school to help us direct traffic and reinforce our school route. If you're able to help, please email Principal Armendariz at farmenda@pps.net.
For additional directions and a map, check out our website. Thank you for helping us keep our students safe!
Staffing Update
We are still hiring for several positions at Capitol Hill:
0.5 Counselor to work alongside our current counselor, Erika Moller
Music Teacher
Librarian
Duty Support
If you or someone you know is interested in joining our team, please check the PPS Employment Opportunities webpage for current postings and application information.
Facilities is also hiring for our Head Custodian position. That hiring process is managed by the Facilities department rather than at the school level, but we look forward to welcoming our new head custodian once the position is filled.
