What is PBIS?

P.B.I.S. stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. It is an evidence-based framework used by schools to improve student behavior, safety, and overall school climate. Our PBIS purpose at Saint Albans City School: We are committed to creating a supportive and safe culture for all, where everyone has the opportunity to try their BEST, take risks, and are held to high expectations.

Students learn about our School-Wide Expectations referencing our acronym:

B - Be respectful

E - Encourage kindness

S - Safety first

T - Try your hardest

What about the Pom-Poms? Have you heard your child say: β€œI earned a pom pom today?” Pom poms are given out to students, with deliberate and positive acknowledgement of the BEST behavior being recognized. They can be individual or whole class acknowledgements (ie. walking in the hallway following our BEST expectations). These are collected as a class, and result in the students earning a classroom celebration.

Posters Help Remind Us: Posters are hung around our building and are a visual display of

our BEST expectations in different areas of our building. You may see them in the hallways, offices, classrooms, and even bathrooms! These are referred to daily by staff and students.

Reminder! Reminder!

Graphic showing a student who misses 2 days per month of school will miss 30 hours of math over a year, and 60 hours of reading and writing; and when missing 4 days a month will miss 40 days of year of school, 60 hours of math, and 120 hours of reading and writing.

Attendance Matters! Notes from Title 1 Meeting & Help SACS Use the Funds! Attendance Matters! Notes from Title 1 Meeting & Help SACS Use the Funds!

Title I Meeting at Open House

It was fun to see so many faces at Open House and the Title I Presentation.

What You Missed: St. Albans City School is a Title I school.

Purpose of Title I, Part A, Section 1116 of the ESSA: β€œThe purpose of this title is to provide all children significant opportunity to receive a fair, equitable, and high quality education and to close the educational achievement gaps." At the presentation we shared ways we can use our Title 1 funds, which include community engagement activities like family nights devoted to math, reading, STEAM, or other purposes, or to help purchase technology that might enable more learners to participate and see gains in school.

We need your help! All schools in MRUSD are Title I schools, meaning Title I funds can be dynamically used to serve and support all students across the entire District. We are looking for feedback on how to allocate these funds in our school. Please contact us with suggestions!
