Dear Grandview Families,

We appreciate our families’ and neighbors’ continued patience as construction at Grandview moves forward. While the original timeline anticipated completion by December 2025, delays—common with large-scale construction projects—have impacted progress. We have been meeting weekly with construction teams but shifting timelines have made it challenging to share updates with confidence.

That said, we are pleased to report significant progress over the past month, both inside and outside the building. By the end of January, we expect the front of the building to reopen and show noticeable improvements. In the coming months, additional metal panels will be installed, along with painting and new lighting at the front of the building.

At this time, we are optimistic that the majority of construction will be completed by the end of April, with only minor punch-list items extending into May. Our goal is for the project to be fully completed by June 1.

Thank you for your understanding as timelines evolve. We remain committed to sharing updates as soon as we have information we can confidently stand behind, and we truly appreciate your continued support.

With appreciation,

Dr. Susan Short
Principal, Grandview Elementary

January’s Character Trait Focus: Perseverance

This month we are focusing on Perseverance, which we define as: pushing yourself through obstacles and challenges. You can learn more about this month’s focus by checking out the latest Character Strong newsletter.

Tip of the Week

Instead of asking your child, “How did you push through a hard challenge today?” This small shift encourages reflection and deeper conversations at home.

Family Resource
The Purposeful People library is a fantastic resource that organizes book lists by character trait. Try checking out some of these titles from your local library, or search for read-aloud versions on YouTube. Reading or listening to these stories together is a wonderful way to spark meaningful conversations about gratitude and other important values.

Hope everyone had a happy holiday and is ready for a new year!

Paloma Reading Program

The Paloma Reading Program is free innovative initiative that empowers families to become their children's biggest supporters in developing literacy skills. By clicking on the text link provided by Paloma daily, families can provide 15 daily minutes of short-burst tutoring at home, which translates to an entire extra year of school for every student. Parents do not have to download or purchase anything.

This program is particularly beneficial for K-2 students, as it helps accelerate learning by equipping parents with the skills to deliver curriculum-aligned instruction. Paloma's approach is effective and culturally responsive, allowing parents to engage in their children's learning in a way that aligns with their cultural backgrounds. The program has been recognized for its effectiveness, with 76% of K-2 parents successfully using it to tutor their children, resulting in a 45% increase in reading growth and a doubling of progress for multilingual learners.

Paloma's commitment to enhancing instructional time outside the classroom aims to create a seamless partnership between schools and families, ultimately improving student outcomes. Please click the links below for more information on how the program works.
