The Heart of Haleiwa
Summer 2026
Aloha and Mahalo, Ms. Atonio!
As we prepare for the close of another school year, we also prepare to say goodbye to someone who has made a tremendous impact on our Haleʻiwa Elementary School community. While we had hoped she would remain with us longer, we want to congratulate Ms. Akenese Atonio on her appointment as Vice Principal at Governor Wallace Rider Farrington High School for the upcoming school year.
From the very beginning of her time at Haleʻiwa, Ms. Atonio shared that her long-term goal was to return to the secondary level and serve in a community where she felt she could make a meaningful difference. Although we certainly tried our best throughout the year to convince her to stay, we are incredibly proud of her as she takes this next step in her leadership journey.
During her time at Haleʻiwa, Ms. Atonio brought an exciting and vibrant energy to our campus. She built strong relationships with students, staff, and families, and she consistently advocated for equity and opportunities for all children. Her warmth, passion, and commitment to students were evident in everything she did, and her presence will be greatly missed.
While her departure is bittersweet, we know that the students and community at Farrington High School are gaining an exceptional leader who cares deeply about young people and public education.
Please join us in thanking Ms. Atonio for all she has contributed to Haleʻiwa Elementary School and in wishing her the very best in her new role.
