Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This Tuesday, our school will celebrate International Dot Day, a special day dedicated to creativity, courage, confidence, and helping every child discover the difference they can make in the world.
Dot Day was inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot. In the story, a young student named Vashti believes she cannot draw. Her teacher encourages her to simply make a mark and see where it takes her. Vashti begins with one small dot, but that simple act, and her teacher’s belief in her helps her discover confidence and creativity she did not know she had. What a wonderful message for our children!
🔴 Every Child Can Make a Mark
At our school, we want every student to know that their ideas matter, their talents matter, and they matter. Sometimes children are hesitant to try something new because they are afraid they might not get it right the first time. Dot Day reminds us that learning begins when we are willing to try, make mistakes, grow, and try again. As educators and parents, we have the privilege of being the people who encourage our children to take that first step. Sometimes, the most powerful words a child can hear are simply: “Give it a try. I believe in you.” Those words can make a lasting difference.
🟡 Families Can Celebrate, Too!
As we celebrate Dot Day at school on Tuesday, we encourage you to continue the conversation at home. Ask your child: “How will you make your mark?” Their answer might surprise you! Making a mark doesn't have to mean doing something big. It can mean helping a friend, showing kindness to someone who needs it, trying something difficult, including someone who feels left out, sharing a creative idea, or simply making someone's day a little brighter. Our children are capable of making a positive difference right now.
Thank you, families, for partnering with us as we encourage our students to dream, create, take chances, and believe in themselves. Together, we can help every child discover that one small dot, one brave attempt, one kind act, or one great idea can be the beginning of something amazing.
Make your mark. Encourage someone else to make theirs. And have a wonderful Dot Day! 🔵🟢🔴
Warm regards,
Will Zwingmann, Ed.S.
