From the Desk of Principal Cherry

Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break and are ready for the second semester. We finished the 1st semester with a week of dress up days, a very active assembly and final exams. It was a great end to a great semester. We look forward to a busy second semester where we will continue with incorporating the West Way in all that we do in the classroom, hallways, outside and in our community. We will continue to promote rigor and accountability in all of our classes and see our students continue to learn and experience a positive learning environment.

Second Semester Reminders

Schedules:

All students will need to pick up a new schedule for their 2nd semester classes (some classes many have changed). Students will pick up their schedule in their 1st period class. To see where your 1st period class is, find your last name on the list by either the front entrance doors or by the back doors where you arrive by bus.

Devices:

All students must bring their Boise School District device assigned to them to school every day. The device must be charged and in good working order. We do not have additional devices to loan students for the day. If a device is not working, the device needs to be taken to the library immediately to be assessed by our tech team. Devices that are damaged not due to normal wear and tear will be the responsibility of the student/guardian. Current replacement costs are $210 per device.

Attendance and Tardies:

It is important that students are on time to all of their classes and attend school daily. We are not a remote learning school so therefore students need to attend in person at least 90% of the time. Students with excessive tardies and absences may lose credit and/or may be required to attend summer school to promote to the next grade level. Please plan accordingly for weather and traffic conditions.

From FCCLA-Wreaths for West

Our 3rd annual Wreaths for West was again a huge success. Thank you to everyone who participated by either making/donating a wreath or purchasing a wreath. Here is the link to how the money was donated to grant a holiday wish for someone in our community.

Message From West PTBC

Thank you to everyone who donated candy canes for our Candy Cane Candy Grams. It was a HUGE success. We will have our monthly meeting at 3:00 in the library on Tuesday, Jan. 10. All are welcome to attend.

ORDER YOUR YEARBOOKS HERE

It's that time of year when we start ordering yearbooks. While yearbooks aren't delivered until May, we need to know how many to order before then. In order to be guaranteed a yearbook, please place your order soon. Last year we sold out of years so be sure to order before the deadline. The deadline is early spring. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Drzayich at kellie.drzayich@boiseschools.org

Advisory Period and Homework Help

At West Junior High we offer an advisory class at the end of the day (9th period 2:00-2:30). This class is part of the academic school day and tardies and attendance are taken. It is designed for students to get help with assignments, retake quizzes or tests, or have time to complete homework. It is also where students set academic goals and evaluate how they are reaching those goals each semester. Students get weekly printouts of missing assignments as well. This time is designed to help students be successful and get any help or support they need. If you child would like additional support, please see program below that Borah offers.
