Free Crockpot Cooking Class - March 24, 26, & 28
Does the idea of having a healthy, homecooked meal for your family feel like an overwhelming chore? Does it sometimes feel like there is just not enough time, money or energy? Do you wish your high schooler could learn some cooking skills to carry with them after graduation? Come join us for 3 sessions of exploring and cooking delicious homemade crock pot meals that are easy to prepare and healthy to eat!
Each session, participants will prepare a family sized meal to take home and cook in a crock pot. If you don't have a crock pot, that's ok! They will be generously provided by the SMS & SHS PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association).
In addition to preparing meals, you will learn ways of nourishing your body and mind in healthy ways. You will learn about how people connect through the meals they share and the food they eat. Upon completion of the three session program, each family will receive a free gift from Epicurean.
We're inviting our SHS students and a parent/guardian (if available) to spend time with us cooking, sharing, and exploring these things together.
Where: Superior High School Food Lab Classroom
When: Monday 3/24, Wednesday 3/26, Friday 3/28 (must be able to attend all 3 sessions)
Time: 5-7pm

Teacher Support for Conferences - Sign Up!
Because of the generosity of a few local businesses, we are able to provide dinner for teachers during their long evenings in the building for conferences. We need your help showing our SWEET staff your appreciation. Sign up to bring in a dessert HERE on either or both nights. Thank you for showing our Spartan staff some love!
PBIS at SHS
PBIS (positive behavior interventions and supports) is a system that focuses on reinforcing positive behavior by providing clear expectations to students and teaching them what those expectations look like in action. PBIS provides meaningful incentives for students when they are showing expected behavior and provides reteaching to students who may need more support in understanding how to show expected behavior throughout the building. Staff are encouraged to award students with a Spartan ticket, which they can turn in for various incentives. How can you help support our efforts? We are looking for prizes, gift cards, or experiences that will get our students excited. Any donations can be turned into the main office to the attention of Matt Amerson. We have also created this Amazon Wishlist. Another way to support is to shop the Spartan Shack online for gear we can use toward prizes. Our students love Spartan swag!

Counselors Corner
SHS DBT Northland Program & Miller Dwan Foundation
In November, Mrs. Mattson conducted an initial introduction of Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills to our Northland students and teachers thanks to a grant received by the Miller Dwan Foundation/Amberwing Program. With funding through this grant, Mrs. Mattson was also able to support her DBT lessons by adding key elements to the Northland classroom setting including:
- Signage with DBT skills in strategic areas in the classrooms and commons area.
- Items that appeal to senses such as lighting, tactile, sight, and touch.
- DBT cards that are being used as reminders, and providing teachers with extra ideas on how to implement the skills in their classrooms.
- Fidgets that are given to students who need more to calm and reregulate.
- Items to provided to students when discussing the TIPP and Six senses DBT skills.
- Coloring mandalas are on a table as a shared space to use when needed to re regulate.

ACT and PreACT Testing
ACT testing is approaching.
Wednesday, 3/26: ACT (11th Graders only in the building)
Wednesday, 4/9: PreACT (9th and 10th Graders only in the building)
Juniors will be doing more ACT Prep in Advisory on 3/6 and 3/7 within their MyACT accounts. They will be able to select up to four colleges to send their scores to free of charge (parents may want to have some conversations about this with their student prior).
They will also be completing the Non-Test Activities, which include some optional questions that again parents may want to preview with students. A preview of the questions can be found here.
Students must register and complete their MyACT account set-up no later than two days post testing to receive their scores linked to their MyACT account and their free score reporting sent to colleges.
More details on these dates will be sent out as the day gets closer.
