Week 34
Winding Down the School Year
Dear Elmore School Families,
As I write this, it is hard to believe we have just 9 1/2 day left in this school year. Hot weather had everyone feeling a bit restless this week. While we are wrapping up many parts of our school year, we are still actively engaged in learning a few new things! We are currently learning about daylight patterns and weather patterns that occur during the year and how these patterns can help us predict the weather. In math students are still engaged in new learning as we aim to complete as many lessons as possible to get ready for next year. Students are busy writing memory letters to classmates as well as completing persuasive writing final drafts. This week we completed STAR Reading and STAR Math assessments and students have been doing reading assessments with me. Next week first grade students will be taking their last PNOA assessment.
For the past couple of months the third graders have been working with Mrs. Leapold to learn how to play the recorder. On Wednesday morning they performed a few songs for us. Thank you to Lisa Leapold for taking time to come work with the students at the Elmore School.
On Friday, with the help of five Peoples Academy students who were participating in a day of service, we planted our school gardens. We relocated one garden bed to the front fence where veggies and herbs were planted and we refreshed the soil in the taller raised bed where students planted flowers and vegetables. Several pots were planted with flower seeds and where the lower raised bed used to be we spread windflower seeds. It will be exciting to see what grows!
On Friday afternoon our third graders visited MES for the afternoon and Kindergarten students entering first grade in Elmore next year visiting our classroom! The current first and second graders were very welcoming to their further classmates.
We had one last chick hatch early Monday morning. All the Chicks are happy and thriving! They will spend one more week with us in the classroom, and then will go to their forever home at Miss Annmarie's .
There are two permissions slips that need your attention. You can find these in your students Friday Folder.
1) We will be going to MES next Wednesday to watch the 4th grade play.
2) We will be joining MES at Elmore State Park to go swimming on Wednesday, June 18th, then we will walk next door to the Martha and George Twomblys' property for a picnic lunch. In the afternoon we will have Field Days back at school!
Our last Family Hot Lunch will be on Friday, June 13th provided by the Soriano Family. Burgers and Hot dogs, tots, Green Salad, and a special dessert will be served.
Please submit your school lunch orders by Sunday evening at 6:00 pm.
