4-H & FFA Crop Scouting Challenge 4-H & FFA Crop Scouting Challenge

On Tuesday, July 28, youth from across Minnesota gathered at the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul campus for the annual 4-H & FFA Crop Scouting Competition. This engaging, hands-on event brought together teams of youth to put their agricultural knowledge, critical-thinking abilities, and field skills to the test in a friendly yet challenging environment.

Throughout the day, participants rotated through stations focused on identifying insect pests, diagnosing plant diseases, assessing weed issues, evaluating crop conditions, and demonstrating their knowledge of crop production. Each scenario mirrored real-world challenges faced by farmers, agronomists, and other agricultural professionals, giving youth an authentic glimpse into the demands and opportunities within the agricultural industry.

Congratulations to the Hubbard/Lake Co Sr Team who placed 3rd! Team members include: Caleb M., Amaris S., Lydia G. & Anna P.

Congratulation to the Hubbard Co Int Team who placed 2nd! Team members include: Weston M., Brooks P., Paul A., Henry M. & Adam G.

Special thanks to Alicia & Nic Podoll for coaching the crop scouting teams!

2026-2027 Hubbard County 4-H Leadership Opportunities 2026-2027 Hubbard County 4-H Leadership Opportunities

As we plan for the start of the new 4-H program year, we have a few leadership opportunities to invite youth and adults to consider applying for, including...

Leaders Council Officers

The Hubbard County 4-H Leaders Council is the governing body of our local 4-H program, which meets four times throughout the year (the fourth Tuesday of October, January, April and June) to give direction and provide feedback on events and programming offered through 4-H at the county level as we work "to make the best better" in following 4-H's motto. Together, with the 4-H staff member(s) and local program membership, the council will unify and strengthen the Hubbard County 4-H program. The youth officer positions are open to all actively enrolled 4-H youth members who are currently in grades 7+ and have completed at least two years in 4-H, and the adult advisor to the treasurer is open to all screened adult volunteers (adults wishing to be the adult advisor to the treasurer must begin the Minnesota 4-H volunteer screening process before submitting their application, and all three steps of the screening process must be completed prior to October 31, 2026). If you'd like to lead the future of our local 4-H program, please apply using either the youth officer application or the adult advisor to the youth treasurer application!

Ambassador Youth Leaders

Ambassadors are actively enrolled 4-H youth members who are currently in grades 7+ and have completed at least one year in the 4-H. The purpose of Hubbard County 4-H Ambassador Program is to make a difference in 4-H and our local communities. Local 4-H ambassadors use their skills in leadership, civic engagement, communication and teamwork to promote 4-H, plan events, guide younger youth and serve their communities. For more on member selection and expectations, please check out the cover page (page one) of the Ambassador Program Member Application or connect with the 4-H Office. ! If the Ambassador Program sounds like a good fit for you, please apply!

The work of the Livestock PDC aims to stimulate interest in the livestock project area as well as to enhance the growth and development of skills of 4-H youth in the livestock project area.
