From the Principal- Building Momentum Together
Hello Riverview Families,
It has been another great week of learning and growing at Riverview! Our students are continuing to settle into strong routines and are showing so much pride in their work. It’s inspiring to see Falcons supporting one another, celebrating successes, and putting their best effort forward each day.
One highlight this week has been watching students take ownership of their learning and demonstrate leadership in both the classroom and around the building. These moments remind us of the incredible potential each child brings, and we are grateful for your partnership in reinforcing these habits at home.
As we move further into September, we are excited about the opportunities ahead—both in the classroom and through upcoming school events. We can’t wait to cheer on our Falcons at the Fun Run and look forward to connecting with you during Parent–Teacher Conferences later this month.
Upcoming Building Events:
-
September 12th: Fun Run (flyer below)
-
September 24–25th: Parent–Teacher Conferences (sign-up button below)
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. Together, we’re helping every Falcon SOAR!

Connect, Align, Grow
At Riverview, our Connect, Align, and Grow goals aren’t just for school, they thrive when our whole community is part of the journey.
-
Connect: Building strong, trusting relationships between students, staff, and families helps every child feel safe, valued, and ready to learn.
-
Align: Working together—home, school, and community, means students hear consistent messages and expectations wherever they go.
-
Grow: When we nurture curiosity, resilience, and responsibility, students become confident learners and caring citizens who make a difference in our community.
CONNECT – Growing Through Kindness
At Riverview, kindness is at the heart of our school community. When students act kindly toward others, they build trust, strengthen friendships, and create a positive environment where everyone can thrive. Small acts—like inviting a classmate to join a game, offering a helping hand, or sharing encouraging words—make a big difference in how connected students feel.
This week, we are highlighting the “A” in SOAR: Act Kindly. Acting kindly means treating others with respect and empathy in every setting including, classroom, playground, lunchroom, and beyond.
How Families Can Help This Week:
Take a moment each day to share examples of kindness you noticed—whether at school, home, or in the community. Encourage your child to look for ways they can brighten someone else’s day. Over time, these conversations help kindness become a natural and powerful habit.
Cell Phones and Smart Watches
At Riverview, our priority is to create a safe, focused, and distraction-free learning environment where every student can thrive. To help us maintain this, we want to share a reminder about expectations for cell phones and smart watches at school.
Cell Phones
-
Elementary students should not use cell phones during the school day.
-
If a phone is sent with your child, it must remain on silent or school mode and stay in their backpack from arrival until dismissal.
-
If you need to get an important message to your child (such as a transportation change), please call the school office, and we’ll be sure to deliver the message promptly.
-
If your child needs to reach you, they may use the school phone in the office.
Smart Watches
-
Smart watches may be used as a timepiece.
-
They should remain in school mode or be stored in backpacks during the day.
-
Please avoid texting or calling your child during school hours, the best way to reach them is through the office.
If devices are misused:
Phones or watches used during the school day for purposes other than timekeeping will be asked to remain in backpacks or may be held in the office until dismissal.
We know technology plays an important role in students’ lives, and we are committed to teaching responsible use. Together, we can help students develop healthy habits and keep their focus on learning while at school. Thank you for partnering with us to ensure that Riverview continues to be a place where students can learn, grow, and succeed!
Falcons Soaring in the Lunchroom
It has been wonderful to see classrooms working hard to earn their 5 Falcons in the lunchroom! Each grade level voted on two incentives they wanted to earn, and the choices have been free seating, eating outside, extra recess, music, and even a movie.
We are proud to share that almost every class has already earned a reward! Be sure to ask your child what expectations they are focusing on in the lunchroom and what reward their class is working toward next. Great job, Falcons!

Responsibility in Action
This month at Riverview, we are continuing to learn about Responsibility. Being responsible isn’t just about doing what’s expected—it’s also about showing that we can be trusted to follow through. When students take responsibility, they show others that their words and actions can be counted on.
One way to think about responsibility is “doing what needs to be done even when it’s not easy or convenient.” This could be finishing homework before playtime, helping with a household chore without being asked, or admitting a mistake and working to make it right.
Family Connection Idea:
Choose one small responsibility that each family member will commit to for the week. It could be keeping a room tidy, helping prepare a meal, or taking care of a pet. At the end of the week, talk together about how it felt to stick with that responsibility and how it made life smoother for everyone.
Our focus for next month will be Kindness.
Taken from Purposeful People.
Celebrations & Shoutouts
This week, we’re celebrating our Fourth Grade Falcons!
Our fourth graders have been showing outstanding behavior in the cafeteria by consistently following our SOAR expectations. Their hard work and positive choices earned them the very first grade-level reward of the year! On Tuesday, they celebrated with free-choice seating across the entire grade level and they rocked it!
Way to go, fourth grade! Thank you for being such great leaders and role models at Riverview. We are proud of you!
Nurse Updates
A nurse is now available in the office, so please feel free to call or stop by if you need to:
-
Drop off medications or medication orders
-
Inform us of any new health conditions
-
Provide updated immunization records (especially if your child is new to Riverview)
-
Submit a physical exam form (required if your child is attending a Kansas school for the first time and is 8 years old or younger)
We also recommend keeping a change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Accidents and spills—especially during lunch—are common, and we may not always have extra clothing in the right size.
If you prefer, you may also email our nurses directly:

Visitor Management System
USD 232 continue using visitor management system this year through Centegix. All visitors will continue checking in through the office, however an ID will be a requirement. This ID will be entered into the Centegix system and will create a sticker with a picture that must be visibly worn throughout the building. Nobody will be allowed in the building without an ID. Thank you in advance for your patience as we implement this new system!
Arrival/Dismissal
Car Loop Tips for a Smooth Pick-Up & Drop-Off
To help keep our car loop moving safely and efficiently:
-
Have your child practice getting in and out of their car seat or seatbelt on their own.
-
Parents, please stay in your vehicle—our staff or Honor Patrol helpers will assist as needed.
-
A folder, sign, or paper with your student’s name displayed helps us get them to your car more quickly.
Thank you for helping us keep the process safe, smooth, and speedy for everyone!
Forgot Something? Use Our Drop-Off Table!
For your convenience, we have a Drop-Off Table located just inside the front doors. If your student forgot something, like their lunch, instrument, glasses, or any other classroom item, you can simply buzz in, drop it off, and be on your way. No need to sign in or go through the visitor management system. Just remember to write your student’s name on the sticky notes provided so we can make sure it gets to them quickly. Thank you for helping keep our drop-offs smooth and efficient!
At Riverview we are very safety conscious. Please see the map below for specific arrival/dismissal details.
