Message from Principal Schumacher

Dear Hough Families,

It's a good thing we have been emphasizing how to persevere through Character Strong lessons in our morning meetings. The weather certainly tests our perseverance as we battle the cold weather while it interrupts our plans and keeps us inside. We need to keep our sights on the warmer, sunny days that are hopefully right around the corner!

Please remember that students should come to school with full winter gear since we go to recess as long as the weather is dry and the temperature is above zero degrees. If your child(ren) needs anything, please let me know. I can provide winter gear so all of our students are warm and prepared for the cold weather.

As we prepare for a cold day tomorrow, our teachers are busy planning an engaging day despite not being face to face with students. If eLearning is new for you, please note the following:

  • Families can visit our e-learning procedures webpage if they have questions about how tomorrow is going to work. There will be a page pop on the district and Hough webpage to help direct you there.

  • Teachers will send out plans directly to students/families - if you have questions or do not receive communication, please reach out directly to your child's teacher.

  • Because this is an e-learning day, no, an extra day of school will not be added to the end of the calendar.

  • Any appointments scheduled to be at Hough on Friday will be rescheduled or held on Zoom.

  • Extracurricular activities will be canceled on Friday at all three levels.

If you have additional questions, please reach out so I can help.

We have had a lot of excitement at Hough, and more is coming! Our 5th grade basketball teams are shining on the courts so far, and I am confident they will continue their stellar performance as the season continues. Our Hough Spelling Bee was a nail-biter; all participants were well-prepared and had studied intensely for the competition! Congratulations to all participants for putting forth tremendous effort and to our 1st place winner Aaron C., 2nd place winner Keerthana M., and 3rd place winner Elizabeth W. We are proud of you!

We hosted special guest author Mat Heagerty at Hough last week. He spent time with all of our students talking about his own school experiences, what inspired him to be an author, and encouraged students to lean into their talents and set goals. The feedback from students was really positive and many students wanted to read one of his books!

In the upcoming weeks, students will be practicing speeches for the Speech Tournament and auditioning for the school musical. The Creativity Project will also be coming to Hough, the PTO is sponsoring the ever-popular Snowball Dance and also planning for Valentine's Day parties. More information about these activities will be forthcoming as dates get closer.

I look forward to all of the upcoming events and school activities.

Warmly,

Heather

Inaugural Hough Multi-Cultural Night

Join us for a vibrant and exciting Multi-Cultural Night on February 19th, 2026! This special event celebrates the diversity of our school community and provides a wonderful opportunity for families to share their unique cultures and traditions. We invite families to participate by signing up to bring a dish, showcase a tradition, perform a dance, introduce a game that reflects their heritage, or any activity that you would like to share with the Hough family.

This is a fantastic way to explore the rich tapestry of cultures represented in our school and to foster understanding and appreciation among students and families. Whether it's a favorite recipe, a traditional costume, a cultural dance, a fun game from your country, or just coming to explore and experience other cultures, we encourage everyone to contribute!

Please sign up using the provided link to list your activity and the country it represents. Let’s come together to celebrate our differences and learn from one another in a joyful, festive atmosphere!
