From the Principal
Parents/Guardians,
It is really an honor to partner with you to support your child. I truly believe that it takes "a village" to raise children. Your involvement in their education is vital to their success.
Here are some tips that I found that I thought may be helpful to you...
Creating a Supportive Home Learning Environment
Establish a Routine: Set a consistent daily schedule for homework, meals, and sleep. Adequate sleep is vital for learning and concentration.
Designated Study Space: Create a quiet, well-lit area free from distractions (like a TV) where your child can focus on homework and studying.
Prioritize Homework: Communicate that homework is important. Be available to answer questions, interpret instructions, and review completed work, but resist the urge to do the work for them.
Encourage Reading: Read to younger children, and encourage older children to read for pleasure. Let your child see you reading, as it models a lifelong love of learning.
Make Learning Real: Connect school subjects to everyday life. For example, use cooking to teach fractions, or shopping to practice budgeting and math skills.
Foster Curiosity: Encourage exploration and questioning. Visit museums, libraries, parks, and talk about the world around you.
Connecting with the School and Teachers
Communicate Regularly: Attend parent-teacher conferences and back-to-school nights. Get to know your child's teachers and their expectations for the class.
Stay Informed: Know how the school and teachers share information (e.g., email, class websites, newsletters). Check in on your child's academic progress frequently, not just when a problem arises.
Volunteer or Join Organizations: Consider joining the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) or Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) or volunteering for school events if your schedule allows. Your involvement shows your child that you value their school.
Reinforce School Rules: Support the school's disciplinary and attendance policies. Ensure your child attends school on time unless genuinely ill.
Nurturing Emotional and Social Growth
Show Genuine Interest: Ask specific questions about their school day that go beyond "How was school?" Try asking, "What was the most interesting thing you learned today?" or "Tell me one thing that made you laugh."
Be a Cheerleader: Praise your child's effort, not just their grades. Encourage them and help them develop a positive self-image.
Teach Resilience: Allow your child to experience and learn from minor frustrations, failures, or mistakes in a safe environment. Help them break down difficult tasks into smaller, manageable steps.
Encourage Extracurriculars: Support their involvement in school sports, clubs, or community activities. These develop social skills, teamwork, and character.
Model Respect: Show respect for teachers and school staff, even when you have disagreements. This teaches your child to respect authority and the educational process.
Have a great weekend!

What Are Your Child's Grades?
Did you know that you are able to see your child's grades as soon as it is entered into the gradebook by the teacher? It is so important that you are able to see this along the way in order for your child to succeed. Download the PowerSchool App today to receive grade notifications!
Here are the steps to get signed back up in case you got logged out.
- Parents who've created an account, but unable to login should contact the PowerSchool Helpdesk. Provide your name, your child's name, and a contact phone number where you can be reached when emailing.
School Fees
If you have not paid your school fees, please go to myschoolbucks.com to take care of that. The charge is $20. Students will not be allowed to go on their Fall Field Trip without these fees being paid. If you have any questions, feel free to call Mrs. KB at our front office.
Paint the Rock
PTO wants to invite you to "Paint the Rock" for your child's special occasions (birthday, sports/dance tournament, etc.) The cost is $20 per day. All the details and to register are in the link. Reserve your date so that it does not get filled up!

Attendance Reminders
Tardy - To be considered on time, the child must be sitting in their classroom at 7:45am. At 7:45am, our front door locks. The parent/guardian/driver will be expected to park their car and sign their child in at this point. Officer Hodges, our School Resource Officer, will be there to remind whoever is dropping off your child. Our instruction begins at 7:45am, so being late for school results in loss of instruction.
Early Dismissal - Students will not be allowed to be dismissed between 2:00-2:30pm for Early Dismissal. Please plan to pick your child up before then, if you have a doctor's appointment. Repeated Early Dismissals could result in an Attendance Plan.
Absences - It is imperative that your child is at school. We have a new system, and will be monitoring attendance very closely. You are allowed to turn in up to 5 Parent Notes to cover an unexcused absence. An example of a Parent Note would be a low grade fever, throwing up, etc. If you take your child to the doctor, please be sure to turn in the medical note. A student is considered truant with 3 consecutive absences or 5 unlawful absences. At this point, an Attendance Meeting will be scheduled with the Parent/Guardian and administration to create an Attendance Plan. Continued truancy will result in turning the plan over to the Anderson County Board.
