MESSAGE FROM MS JOANNA
Dear PS 107 Families,
June is right around the corner, and it is going to be a full and joyful month here at PS 107. We have so much to look forward to: Pride Month, Caribbean-American Heritage Month, Big Yard Games, grade-wide picnics, Spring Fling, and, for our fifth grade families, graduation. More details on all of these to come, but it is shaping up to be a wonderful end to the school year.
Congratulations to Our New School Leadership Team (SLT) Parent Representatives
We are thrilled to welcome Nisha Aoyama and Zoe Schlesinger as our newly elected School Leadership Team (SLT) parent representatives. The SLT plays a vital role in school-based decision-making and shaping the direction of our community — it is made up of equal parts parents and staff, and serves as a kind of board of directors for the school, guiding big-picture planning and policy. We are so grateful to Nisha and Zoe for their willingness to bring their time, perspective, and energy to this work.
We also want to take a moment to honor two parent leaders who have completed their two-year terms on the SLT: Crystal Park and Louise Holbrook. Crystal and Louise, your wisdom, commitment, and partnership have meant so much to our school community. Thank you.
A quick note for those who are newer to PS 107: the SLT is a school-based governance body and is separate from the PTA, even though SLT parent representative elections are held as part of PTA meetings.
Spring Fling is One Week Away!
Get your dancing shoes ready — Spring Fling is next Wednesday, June 3rd, from 6:30–9:00 pm in the Big Yard! This annual PS 107 tradition is one of the best nights of the year: music, dancing, food, and fun under the stars. A huge thank you to parent leads Erin Bestereich and Cara Ruda for making the magic happen once again.
If you haven't yet purchased tickets, you can do so here. And a reminder: if the cost of tickets would be a barrier for your family, please reach out to Parent Coordinator Nadia Benlarbi at nbenlarbi2@schools.nyc.gov. All families are welcome at PS 107 events, and we never want cost to stand in the way.
Preparing for the 2026-27 School Year: Building New Classes
We are beginning the work of building classes for next school year. This process involves multiple rounds of review by classroom teachers, specialty staff, and our administrative team, and we put a lot of thought and care into ensuring that every child is placed in a class where they will learn and grow.
A few important things to know about this process:
We are not able to take requests for specific teachers, nor can we honor requests to avoid particular teachers.
We cannot guarantee that your child will be placed with their closest friends, and we know that can be disappointing. In our experience, though, students quickly make new friends — and they see their old friends regularly in spaces like recess, grade-wide activities, and after-school.
In most cases, teachers are already aware of the social dynamics that may need thoughtful attention. But if there is something you believe we may not know, please share it with your child's current teacher by Wednesday, June 10th.
We do not make class changes in August after assignments go out. Shifts at that stage create a domino effect across the grade, and it is not something we are able to accommodate.
As always, it is a privilege to be part of this community. We have a lot to look forward to in the weeks ahead, and a lot to celebrate together.
Warmly,
Ms Joanna

The School Leadership Team plays an important role in supporting school-based decision-making and helping shape the direction of our school community. We are grateful to our newly elected representatives for their willingness to dedicate their time, perspective, and energy to this work.
Please join us in congratulating Nisha Aoyama and Zoë Schlesinger on their election, and thank you again to all who participated in the process.
Thank you to our outgoing SLT Parent Representatives, Louise Holbrook and Crystal Park, as well as outgoing PTA Co-President and SLT PTA Representative, Adam Cobb, for your dedication and hard work on SLT these past two years!

FUNDRAISERS
ANNUAL FUND
Contribute to the Annual Fund, which directly supports essential school programs and resources. We are nearing the end of the year but have not yet reached our goal. Please help us get over the finish line with your donation! Here’s how:
Make a one-time or monthly donation online via Konstella by clicking here.
Share this public link with non-Konstella users (e.g. extended family and friends).
Make a gift of stock here.
Find out if your employer offers a matching gift program - if so, taking the extra step to secure a corporate match makes a huge difference!
Why support the Annual Fund?
PS 107 relies on PTA support to supplement DOE funding, which consistently falls short of what's needed. This partnership between families and the school makes possible important programs such as Art and Science, as well as supplies, curriculum materials, extra classroom support, and so much more. THANK YOU in advance for your contribution! Please contact PS 107 parent Betsy Goldfarb with any questions about the Annual Fund: betsy@ps107.org.
AAPI AFFINITY GROUP ANNUAL SNACK SALE!
Don't miss the AAPI Affinity Group's Annual Snack Sale to celebrate AAPI Heritage Month. This year, the snack sale will be on Friday, May 29 from dismissal to 5:30 (or whenever snacks sell out) in front of the school. We will have a variety of Asian snacks available for sale at $6/bag. This year, we've sourced an assortment of sweet and savory snacks from China, Japan, Thailand, India, Iran, and Bangladesh. All proceeds will go to the PTA.
NEW YORK LIBERTY FUNDRAISER GAME
On Sunday, June 14th, come out to Barclays Center and watch the New York Liberty with the 107 community. Tickets purchased help raise funds for the PTA. Get your tickets here.
SPECIAL EVENTS
COMMUNITY HELP IN PARK SLOPE (CHiPS) FOOD DRIVE
Every Wednesday at morning drop-off, rain or shine, the Aid and Action Committee will be collecting food donations for CHiPS, a soup kitchen and food pantry which helps support neighbors currently experiencing food insecurity. Find volunteers by the school’s main entrance where they will be collecting the items detailed above.
Please note: Students can now earn the Food Drive Merit Pin by volunteering at the CHiPS collection table on Wednesday mornings. Email Julie Mee Schmidt (juliem@ps107.org) if your child would like to volunteer for this service project.
SPRING FLING
Fling is coming up fast: the big party will be Wednesday, June 3rd from 6:30–9:00pm. If you haven’t already, grab your tickets here! $10 per person (free for children 3 and under), buy in advance to skip the line. To make this night a SUCCESS, we need parent support: We’re asking at least 3 parents from each classroom to select a volunteer slot for the event.
Depending on the task, kids love helping out too! This event only works if the community shows up. To volunteer, please sign up here.
COMMUNITY CLOTHING SWAP @ PS 124
Please join us in the PS 124 School Yard on on Saturday, June 13th from 10-12:30pmfor the Mutual Aid Clothing and Housewares Swap! You are welcome to donate clean, gently used summer clothing, "shop" for items your family needs, or both! There is no obligation to donate in order to take items home. Participate by volunteering with your child (sort and fold clothes for at least 20 minutes to earn a Clothing Drive Merit Pin) or dropping off donations pre-sorted by size and gender. (Please bring only clean, in-season, high-quality items.) We hope to see you there!
SUPPORTING THE PTA = SUPPORTING PS 107
