Winter activities started for all students PK-8 on Monday, January 9th. Many students in grades 5-8 signed up to ski or snowboard at Burke Mountain while some stayed back at school to join the rest of the grades for snowshoeing, sledding, snow volleyball and hot chocolate. The K-2 is also involved in Scat and Tracks program with the VT Fish and Wildlife Department.

Electives Round Three: French Cooking and Language with Ms. Russell and Ms. Provine Electives Round Three: French Cooking and Language with Ms. Russell and Ms. Provine

The French elective has two parts. For two days a week we will study the basics of the French language, led by Ms. Provine. Class will be very interactive, with conversations, projects and games. By the end of the elective, students will be able to hold very simple, polite conversations in French and talk about themselves and other people in their life, as well as knowing the alphabet and counting to 20. For one day a week, led by Ms. Russell, students will focus on basic cooking skills by engaging with French cooking and baking to include chocolate truffles, crepes, Ratatouille, chocolate mousse and more.

On Wednesday, January 4th, Emily Snodgrass assisted us in making truffles. We kicked off our studies learning some key ideas:

  1. Wash your hands at the beginning and frequently.

  2. Tie long hair back

  3. Never taste test while baking for others, as we are in this class.

The truffle making went great. Students learned a new recipe, how to use a double boiler and reinforced math ideas. Students also made crepes last week and started their French language instruction!

PK, K and 7/8 Field Trip to Montshire PK, K and 7/8 Field Trip to Montshire

Students in the PreK, Kindergarten and 7th & 8th grade all attended a field trip to the Montshire Museum. This was a great opportunity for the students to apply some of the things they have been learning about in school. For example: The 7th & 8th grade engineering challenge was to design a 3 energy step exchange machine and end with a pull to start the next machine.
