PBIS MONTHLY UPDATES FROM OUR VERY OWN Mr. Walden
FABULOUS FIFTH GRADERS
Mrs. Woodbridge's Math Class
5th graders working collaboratively in math working on adding fractions with unlike denominators.
FANTASTIC FOURTH GRADERS
Students are wrapping up our Science unit, Earthquake Engineers. Students spent time investigating earthquakes around the world and what causes them. After learning about earthquakes and the damage they cause, it was time to construct earthquake resistant structures. Structures needed to withstand different kinds of forces or loads that act upon a building. Once structures were designed and built, they were tested. Students used the knowledge they gained to adjust or redesign their buildings to improve their safety.
Language Arts finds students exploring the arts. Students read about various art forms and people famous and everyday that use these art forms to express themselves. Students read about dance and how different dances are performed all around the world.
In Math, students just completed the eighth unit this school year. Students are learning to apply all the skills they learned so far this school year while working on factors and multiples, prime and composite numbers and creating equivalent fractions.
TERRIFIC THIRD GRADERS
Third Graders have wrapped up Social Studies and started Science! We have begun with a unit on Weather. Please ask us about all we are learning in Science.
In Math we are working on fractions and in Language Arts we are perfecting writing a letter.
We are excited to celebrate Black History Month. We will be working on research skills by choosing a Famous Black Amerian and completing a research project to present to our classmates.
Check out the pictures below of third graders celebrating the 100th Day of School in style! Mrs. Suranyi's class made Fruit Loop Necklaces to celebrate the special day.
SUPER SECOND GRADERS
Lots of learning has been going on in the second grade classrooms. In ELA, students read fairy tales, fables, and informational texts. They learned about characters and developed comprehension skills including story structure, text organization, and point of view. In Math, we practiced different strategies for subtracting two digit numbers. We identified and counted coins and learned how to tell time on digital and analog clocks. Science began this month. We started off learning about and comparing desert, rainforest, and farm habitats. Next up is learning how plants and animals depend on each other in our topic “A Garden for Life”. This year seems to be flying by. We are looking forward to the weeks ahead and are hoping for some warmer, sunny days!
FUN IN FIRST GRADE
The first grade has been very busy this month! We celebrated the 100th day of school with a hat parade, necklaces, and lots of other fun activities. The first graders paraded through every classroom wearing their awesome hats!
During Math, the students have been working on counting numbers 1-120 and comparing two-digit numbers. They continue to add and subtract numbers within 1-20.
The first grade began the Twig Science program. The students are really enjoying growing plants, building a plant model with classmates, and creating seeds that will disperse using wind.
During ELA time, the first grade students are being instructed in Fundations. We continue to encourage the students to tap out unknown words, practice reading and writing trick words, mark up words, and scoop sentences.
Please continue to read with your child. Choral, repeated, and echo reading are all great ways to build reading fluency. Happy February!
OUR LITTLEST LEARNERS *Kindergarten*
Kindergarten has spent the beginning of the year exploring the Science of Engineering. They learned about force, speed, gravity, and cooperation all while getting to build and play Marble Run. This unit has now been completed and we will move on to more discoveries of our natural world. We love SCIENCE!
ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS
January was a month of testing for EL students. All ELs were tested on Listening, Speaking , Reading and Writing in English. The EL teachers are very proud of the students for working so hard and doing their best!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION with our DYNAMITE Mr. Dunn
Yabba Dabba Do!
The students have been bowling the past few weeks in Phys. Ed. class. Bowling is such a fun activity because it is a social sport, it is enjoyable for families, friends, and community groups. It encourages positive interaction, teamwork, and sportsmanship in a relaxed environment. Because bowling places low impact on the body, it can be safely enjoyed throughout a person’s life, from childhood through older adulthood. If you get a chance, take your kids to a local bowling alley and have some family fun! Here are some pics from our fun at Aronimink:

LIBRARY with the WONDERFUL MS. PAULY
At the Aronimink Library, students continue exploring outstanding award-winning literature across grade levels.
In 4th and 5th grades, students are reading Newbery Award–winning novels in small groups. They are engaging in thoughtful discussions focused on plot development, character analysis, and making predictions.
In 1st and 2nd grades, students are enjoying Caldecott Award–winning books while learning about key story elements such as plot, setting, and characters.
In 3rd grade, students are reading short stories, answering comprehension questions, and practicing prediction skills.
ART WITH THE AWESOME MS. PAGANO
Second-grade artists have been exploring clay and have recently begun creating pinch pots using hand-building techniques. Students shaped their pots into hearts or any form they imagined and used clay tools to add carved patterns and textures. Each pinch pot is a one-of-a-kind creation that shows creativity and careful craftsmanship!
MAKING MUSIC with the AMAZING Miss Atlas
Happy new year! 5th grade has started a brand new unit and just started playing baritone ukuleles. Both 4th and 3rd grade classes are working on getting their karate recorder belts. 2nd grade students just started learning about instruments of the orchestra, and 1st grade students have done a fantastic job with rhythm reading and singing with sol, la, and mi!
