There were undeniable signs of spring this week, in addition to the wet, raw, relentless rain. Crocuses appeared! State testing known as "VTCAP" kicked off, our students showing serious focus, as well as the ability to sit for long periods of time. The bountiful snacks helped! We also were treated to the Kindergarten Art Show! This Cornwall tradition fills my bucket. It was so lovely to center the work of the youngest members of our community, and to have families joining us. Each class also got to visit, in the same way that they visit 5th grade exhibition and the 4th grade natural disaster projects. This display of learning in a joyful, communal way is part of what makes Cornwall School a vibrant community!

Kindergarten

Students continue their work on becoming stronger readers and writers! Our focus is using what we know about letters and the sounds they spell to read and write unfamiliar words. Kinders have added the digraphs "sh' and 'th' to the list of spellings that they know.

Their have discussed poetry about themselves and used water colors and photography to create a display that accompanied their work. They published their writing by typing and printing a final copy after writing and editing their handwritten work.

Kindergarten is partnered with 5th grade to raise trout! The trout live in a tank in kindergarten and kinders have observed the trout grow from eggs, watched carefully after they hatched into alevin, observing the yolk still attached to their bodies and monitored them for sign of 'swim up" (when they are ready to learn to feed). Now, the little fry are growing and eating and growing more. They are gaining color on their fins that is special to brook trout. They made beautiful trout, which were on display "swimming" in the recent kindergarten art show, which families and all students got to visit.

Kinders have a long-standing "Class Buddy" tradition with the 5th graders. This past week, kinders visited their 5th grade Buddies to play with puzzles. Some puzzles are still in process....
