Drum Cafe Program - What a Success!

We are grateful to our Rogers families that contributed donations to the PTA’s fundraising efforts so that the Rogers PTA could provide this wonderful enrichment program for our students this semester. Drum Cafe visited Rogers on Monday and they were a huge hit! The kids drummed to the beat while developing their social interaction and leadership skills in an encouraging way. If you haven't asked your student about this experience yet, we encourage you to learn more by asking them!

Home Access Center (HAC) Now Available to K-3 Parents

Home Access Center will soon have additional features and expand to K-3 students in the final nine weeks. In anticipation, parents should make sure they have created a Gateway account. (Your Gateway credentials will work for HAC). Join the Gateway and access a set of FAQs

Click here to review the Parent letter sent on 3/2/23 to all Rogers parents sharing more information about this new access to HAC.

Reminder - IDs Are Required For All Visitors To Campus

In a continuous effort to maintain the highest level of safety and security for students on our campus, Frisco ISD requires that all visitors present an ID when coming to campus.

This is true for parents picking up sick students, parents checking students out for appointments, and parents coming for lunch, Mystery Reader, or GMR. Thank you for your understanding as we continue to make Rogers Elementary a safe and secure place for students and staff to learn.

Pre-Registration for New Students Begins 2023-24

If you or a neighbor plan to enroll new students for the 2023-24 school year, pre-registration begins on February 14th. Once parents have completed the online registration form and uploaded the required documents, they will receive a confirmation email. Enrollment isn’t complete until the documentation is reviewed and processed by FISD staff which will start in the spring and continue throughout the summer. Start the process here.

Mystery Reader Program Sign Up

A Mystery Reader program is a guest reader, BUT their identity is kept secret to build anticipation and excitement. Teachers may even choose to give clues before they arrive to get the students extra excited!

FISD Board Policy requires that each volunteer and/or mentor undergo a background check before working with students. You will be prompted to complete the background check during your VOLY account creation process. Keep an eye on your inbox for your background check approval (the process can take up to 3-5 business days). Once approved, you will be able to sign up directly for volunteer opportunities through the VOLY platform. To volunteer at Rogers Elementary, you will need to create a VOLY account by visiting https://friscoisd.voly.org.

MARCH’S CHARACTER TRAIT GROWTH MINDSET

Link for GROWTH MINDSET Challenge Board

Why does Growth Mindset matter?

Having a growth mindset helps you focus on developing your abilities rather than proving how smart or talented you are. Compared to a fixed mindset, a growth

mindset encourages you to embrace challenges, sustain effort, and try new strategies—and that’s true for both children and adults. Of course, no one embodies only a growth or fixed mindset; we are all a mixture of the two, and we can learn to recognize what triggers a fixed versus growth mindset. Shown evidence that the brain is like a muscle—something you can strengthen—students adopt more of a growth mindset about intelligence and earn higher grades. Finally, the concept of growth mindset doesn’t only apply to intelligence: If there are qualities you don’t like about yourself or others, keep in mind that people can change.

Pulse Check

How often are the following statements true for you?

  • After I make a mistake, I always look for ways to learn from it.

  • I love challenges because they make me smarter.

  • I truly believe that people can change.

  • I can always change how intelligent I am.

How do I encourage growth mindset in others?

Much remains to be discovered about how parents can encourage a growth mindset in young people, but here are some preliminary suggestions.

Model it. Share stories of when you fell short of your expectations but nevertheless learned an important lesson: “I made the wrong decision that day. At first, I avoided thinking about it, but eventually I realized I needed to learn from the mistake. What I realized was...”

Celebrate it. Avoid praising young people for being “gifted,” “talented,” or “a natural.” Instead, praise the process of learning: “I’m so proud of you—when you got stuck on the problem, you tried a different way to solve it and didn’t give up!”

Enable it. Create authentic opportunities for learning. Give children meaningful challenges, consistent support, and timely, constructive feedback. To calibrate your efforts, ask them directly: “Let’s set a stretch goal together—what’s something

you want to accomplish but can’t do yet? What can I do to help?”
