National School Counseling Week
What a way to kick off National School Counseling Week!
Jeff Heavlin, Oscar Howe Elementary Counselor, was named Outstanding Professional School Counselor for South Dakota! Jeff traveled to Washington, DC this week to attend the American School Counselor Association’s banquet honoring counselors from each state. This award is in recognition of a school counselor who has made outstanding contributions to their school, the counseling profession, and the community served. Jeff has been a school counselor since 2006 and received his bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary studies from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and a master’s degree in counseling, guidance and personnel services from the University of South Dakota. “Being able to help students learn and grow during their journey to become the people they will be is one of the most rewarding aspects of this work,” Heavlin said. Congratulations, Jeff!
