Art, Music, and Inspiration with Miss Wisconsin

Jefferson Elementary was honored to welcome Miss Wisconsin for our second quarter celebration on Friday, January 30th! Students enjoyed a fun and engaging presentation where she shared about her platform, her work in a library, and the importance of art, emphasizing that everyone is an artist in their own way. She also delighted students by singing the Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast and getting kids involved with some creative improv activities. It was an inspiring and memorable visit for all! 🎭🎶

🐾 Cattail Crew Animal Presentation Coming to Jefferson!

We’re excited to share that the Cattail Crew will be visiting Jefferson Elementary for a special live animal presentation for our next quarterly celebration. This interactive experience is similar to a small zoo visit and gives students the opportunity to see and learn about animals up close.

Animals scheduled to visit include an armadillo, skunk, rabbit, wallaby, and tortoise. During the presentation, students will learn about animal habitats and how to treat animals with care and respect.

📄 A permission flyer went home with students this week.

The presentation will take place on March 13, 2026. Please complete the form and return it with your student so they can participate in this exciting learning experience.

Thank you for your continued support in providing meaningful and memorable experiences for our students!

Recess with Relatives

Recess with Relatives

Recess with Relatives: Building Relationships with Jefferson students and their families one recess at a time!

When: Wednesday, February 25, 2025*

Time:

  • Kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th Grade Students - 11:40 am to 12:05 pm

  • 1st, 3rd, and 5th Grade Students - 12:05 pm to 12:25 pm

*If inclement weather, Recess with Relatives will be postponed.

General Guidelines:

  • Before finding your child on the playground, please see a recess supervisor with a yellow vest on for a visitor badge. Please stay until the end of your child’s recess time, and say good-bye outside. 🙂

  • For some students it may be hard to see you go at the end of recess. Before you leave, please remind your students that you will see them later and their job is to go back to learning and make it a great afternoon.

  • We understand some of you may not be able to come. However, it can be hard for some students. Thus we encourage you to have a conversation with your students about it, and remind them that you love them and that they can have fun with their friends and their relatives.

  • Have fun, be safe, and respectful to all others.

This is a special time for family members to visit our students, get some fresh air, and enjoy a fun recess together!

Bingo

Jefferson Elementary PTO Bingo Night

Join us for a fun filled family night playing BINGO! Advance registration is REQUIRED.

You will receive a BINGO card upon entry that will be used throughout the night. A form was sent home with your student to sign-up and return before February 11th. If you need a new copy, please contact the office. You may also register online using Sign Up Genius --

https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0549AAAA28A4F94-61877896-bingo

BINGO will be free to play; winners will get raffle tickets for chances to win raffle baskets.

Additional raffle tickets may be purchased, along with 50/50 raffle tickets. This is a cash only event.

We’re looking for volunteers to help make this event a success! Reach out to our PTO to

find out how you can help! PTOJeffersonSchool@gmail.com

Please see below for FAQ, Timeline and Details

  • When: Friday, February 20th
  • Time: 5:30 – 7:30 PM

Why do we have BINGO Night?

  • We want to come together and have fun as a school community. As a bonus, any funds from the raffle baskets, concessions, and heads + tails will support our school, so bring some extra cash to join in the fun!
How do we participate?
  • Register for the event using the link on the reverse side of this form or return the form to school with your oldest child. There is a capacity for the event, so ensure you sign up right away. Your BINGO cards will be at the event entrance table for pick up starting at 5:30 PM. Each participant will get one BINGO card that will be reused throughout the night to play multiple games.
BINGO! Now what?
  • Each time students get BINGO they will win a raffle ticket. Use the raffle ticket to enter for a chance to win a raffle basket! Additional chances to win are available by purchasing raffle tickets at the concession stand.
What is Heads + Tails?
  • Heads and Tails is a quick and simple game that is played after BINGO for some extra added fun! Each round, you will pick either heads or tails by placing your hands on your head or your tail. We will flip a coin, and you are eliminated if you have chosen the opposite. The game concludes with one winner! We will play once for kids 17 and under (FREE – prize given to winner) and then once for adults (18+) $1 each to play (prize given to winner)
What can I expect?
  • BINGO is exciting and fun, but with the cafeteria filled with families, it can get noisy. If you come when doors open, you can find seats for your family, purchase concessions and get situated before the fun begins.
How can I help?
  • You can volunteer to help for a portion of the night! We can use help in a variety of ways and donating 30 minutes of your time allows other families to enjoy the night together. Contact us to volunteer! PTOJeffersonSchool@gmail.com

Important: There will be NO day of registration. There will be a capacity for this event due to building level capacity.

Weather Reminder

Cold Weather Reminder - Dressing for the Outdoors

Winter is here and we want to make sure all students stay safe, warm, and comfortable while outside. Below are our guidelines and a friendly reminder of what children need to dress for chilly days:

  • We hold outdoor recess time before school and twice during the day.
  • Students will be outside whenever the temperature is 10 °F or above, or when the wind chill is above 0 °F.
  • We stay indoors if it’s below 10 °F, or the wind chill is 0 °F or below, or if it’s raining.
  • Students are required to wear a coat or jacket if the temperate is 50 °F or below. Please ensure your students have a coat even if the temperate is expected to be in the 40s.
  • Snowpants and boots are required to play on the field and playground when there is snow present.
  • With how wet the playground and field may be, it is also helpful for all of our students K-5 have an extra change of clothing in their backpacks to change into if they get wet.

If students do not bring snowpants or boots, they will need to stay on the blacktop when we have snow. If your family needs assistance obtaining winter gear, please contact the office at 920-424-0165.

Thank you for your partnership in keeping our students warm, safe, and ready to enjoy outdoor time as weather allows!

Attendance Information

All reports of a student absence must go through the office. If your child(ren) are sick multiple days, please let us know each day they are absent. All communication regarding your student's attendance (appointments, late arrival, early departure, etc.) must go to the office. You can copy in your child's teacher in the email or the office will then pass this information on to the classroom teacher. You can also request absence time off through your parent portal in Infinite Campus. Our school secretary's email is: katie.ascher@oshkosh.k12.wi.us and the school phone number is 920.424.0165. Thank you for your help with this important communication.

Student Drop Off and Map

  • Beginning at the end of the blacktop on 11th Ave and continuing down to Oregon St. is a parking zone. You are able to park along the street here and exit your vehicle, walk your student to the blacktop in the morning or wait on the blacktop for your student in the afternoon.
  • Minnesota Street along the school is a loading zone only. You will not be allowed to park and exit your vehicle here. This area will be for pulling up and immediately dropping off your student in the morning, or pulling up to allow them to enter the vehicle while picking up in the afternoon.
  • The area along the blacktop in front of the playground on 11th will remain a bus zone only. Vehicles are not permitted to park or load in this area.
  • We also ask, if possible, to keep the traffic flow on Minnesota heading north. We prefer vehicles that do not drive south and stop in the middle of the road to drop off their student(s), leaving them to cross the road in front of oncoming traffic. If traffic only flows north, we can avoid this safety hazard by using the designated loading zone on the same side of the street as the school.
  • Jefferson Traffic Flow/Parking Map

Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

Supervision on the blacktop begins at 7:30 AM. Students should arrive no earlier than 7:30 am. At 7:30 am, students may arrive on the blacktop and go to their classroom line-up spots. The first bell rings at 7:40 am, where students will enter the building with their teachers and classes. Students are expected to be in their classrooms at 7:45 am when the second bell rings. Any students arriving late should be dropped off at door 1 and the student will be let in to the office to check in and receive a late pass. Parents/Guardians can say goodbye to their students outside of the building at door 1.

Students will be dismissed at 2:45 pm and all adults picking up students should remain on the blacktop away from the pavement pad next to the door. Teachers will bring your students to their line-up spots on the blacktop to meet you. Please stand behind pink lines that are painted around door 1.

If a parent/guardian is visiting Jefferson Elementary, they must ring the doorbell to be let in through the office. Do not enter the building when students are entering or leaving the building. Parents are not permitted to walk students to their classrooms.
