Massabesic MiddleSchoolFamily Newsletter

October 24, 2025

Greetings MMS Families,

October is such a vibrant time at MMS! The changing leaves and cooler days bring a wonderful sense of energy to our school community. Students are enjoying fall activities, special events, and opportunities to connect with friends and teachers. We look forward to celebrating learning, teamwork, and the many ways our students contribute to making our school a great place to be.

As we move deeper into the fall season, our focus turns toward reflection and growth. Teachers are reviewing assessment data to plan next steps for instruction, and students are building habits that support independence and responsibility. Thank you for your continued partnership in helping your children thrive—your encouragement at home makes a tremendous difference.

Wishing you a happy and colorful October!

Sincerely,

Kelly Grantham, Principal

Amy Troiano, Assistant Principal

Grade 8 Art

8th grade art students have been working all throughout September and October to create clay animation short films! Students are in groups creating sets, characters, and learning about the time and process of claymation. This project is a collaboration with Mr. Holbrook’s music production students, as they will be scoring the films! Artists have been hard at work to create their films and are excited to see their videos come to life!

Massabesic Middle School Student Council Fundraiser: DAV’s Field of Flags

The MMS Student Council is proud to support the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). MMS students raised funds through a Penny Wars fundraiser that took place October 20–24 at school. All proceeds will go toward the DAV’s Field of Flags, a program that empowers communities to honor local veterans and raise funds for those who have sacrificed so much for our country.

Each flag in the Field of Flags represents one veteran and symbolizes our commitment to serving all who have served. When we reach our goal of $1,000, we will plant a Field of Flags on November 10th in front of the school. Each flag will honor a different hero — stories of courage, freedom, and sacrifice that deserve to be celebrated.

You can help the MMS Student Council reach their goal by donating using the online donation link using the button below. This is open until November 1, for anyone who would like to contribute to this meaningful cause. Thank you for helping us honor our veterans and support the DAV’s life-changing services for veterans and their families.

Our Winter 1 season is for 7th and 8th grade boys and girls basketball, and 6th-8th grade sideline cheering. Reigster your athlete through ParentVUE. Students must have a physical on file with the school nurse to begin. Registration will close on December 8th.

There is a Winter 1 Sports Meet the Coaches Night on November 10th at 6:00 in the MMS Library.

The MMS Athletics Website has been updated to a new Google Sites link where you will find a weekly schedule, important information, and a Coach directory: https://sites.google.com/rsu57.org/massabesicmsathletics/home?authuser=0

Reach out to Tom Nelson with any athletics related questions - thomasnelson@rsu57.org

The MHS Music Department will be holding a large-scale Mattress Fundraiser on Saturday, December 6th! If you or anyone you know are looking for quality mattresses and pillows for a good price, come take a look as we turn the high school gym into a Showroom. Try out mattresses, find the one that's right for you, and support the music program!

Please help us spread the word of this amazing opportunity for the community to get a deal, and to help us raise funds for our program!
