News & Notes from the Principal
Happy Halloween Panther families! It was a spirit filled week here in the middle school!
I would like to thank our Student Council and Mrs. Williams for a great spirit week and Halloween Assembly. It is always great to see our students connect with our school in different ways. Also it was great that the teachers won Tug of War!
We have completed the first week of the second quarter. It is important that you and your child are looking at PowerSchool to see how they are progressing academically. Also, please check your emails and/or voicemails for messages from our teachers. If your child needs to redo a summative assignment, teachers will be reaching out to you to let you know. Students have the option to redo summative assignments before school, during Flex, during Success Center after school, and sometimes during class. The time and place will be arranged between you and the teacher. Students will have a two week window to complete a summative redo.
As always, I would like to thank our students, staff, families, and community for their hard work and support. It was great to walk around the building today seeing so many students dressed up for Halloween, eating lots of food, and enjoying each other's company. Days like today are great examples of why it's great to be a DK Panther!
Be safe tonight, have a great weekend, and Happy Halloween!
It's a great day to be a Panther!

Declan’s Walkathon Design Makes Its Debut
Declan Lester received his Walkathon T-shirt on Monday from PIE (Partners in Education)—and it’s the very shirt he designed himself!
He was so happy to see his artwork come to life and couldn’t wait to show it off. We are so proud of Declan and loved seeing his excitement. His happiness brought a smile to everyone's face.

DKMS Students Visit the Civic Theater for Frozen
This week, the DKMS Theater Club took an exciting field trip to the Kalamazoo Civic Theater to watch Frozen—featuring our very own Delton Kellogg High School student, Maggie Martin, in the role of Elsa! Students were thrilled to watch Maggie’s incredible performance.
After the show, the group had the special opportunity to tour the theater, learning more about what happens behind the scenes and how productions come to life.
A big thank you to Ms. Susan Renee for organizing this wonderful experience for our students and making the trip possible!
The Great Apple Crunch!
Students and staff at Delton Kellogg Schools participated in Great Apple Crunch Day during lunch Thursday, celebrating local agriculture and healthy eating. Everyone enjoyed sampling three delicious varieties of locally grown Michigan apples.
A big thank-you to Tiffany Haines, Food Service Director, for organizing this fun and tasty event for our school community!
Hoping for a CNN 10 Shout-Out!
Mr. Weldon’s and Mr. Phillips’ social studies classes have been watching CNN 10 with their students for the past 10 years. Over the years, they’ve tried to earn a shout-out from host Coy Wire and this year, they’re giving it another shot! Their classes sent Coy a Delton Kellogg shirt signed by students, hoping to finally hear Delton Kellogg mentioned on the show. We will keep you posted 🤞
This Week at Starbase
Students had a fun and engaging week at Starbase, launching mini rockets in tubes and testing water rockets to explore concepts like propulsion and trajectory. They also listened to guest speakers from the military base who shared their experiences and insights. In addition, students explored CAD (computer-aided design), learning how technology is used to create and design real-world projects.
Growing Leaders Through Leadworthy
Friday, October 24, marked the end of the first quarter for our new Leadworthy classes, which build on school-wide Community Circles and Capturing Kids’ Hearts lessons. Mrs. Jen Ferguson leads 5th and 7th grades, and Ms. Lisa Ludwig leads 6th and 8th grades. The 8th graders were excited to host Dr. Wright, our Superintendent, for a class focused on student voice.
Each class begins with “Good Things” to encourage positive thinking and includes team-building, role-play, hands-on challenges, videos, journaling, and discussions. Students explore teamwork, communication, self-awareness, stress management, empathy, and goal-setting to grow as learners, friends, and future leaders.
