PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Happy Friday!
There isn’t much new to report this week, so I’m taking this opportunity to remind everyone to read the newsletter from top to bottom! There’s lots of helpful information packed inside, including Raising Kids in the Digital Age, upcoming PTA events, family assistance resources, and a reminder about the importance of school attendance.
Take a few minutes to check it all out so you don’t miss anything that might be helpful to your family!
And don’t forget — there is no school on Tuesday, November 3rd!
Have a wonderful weekend!
-Ross
RSU 1 is hiring a Bus Aide to support elementary students at Dike-Newell School and Fisher Mitchell Schools!
Additional opportunities are also available across the district, including Ed Techs, Substitute Nurses, and coaching positions.
Russell Street Neighborhood
Heads up for parents who park off property during morning drop-off or afternoon pickup!
Our friends at the Bath PD let us know that parking on the nearby Russell Street is getting pretty dangerous and causing some traffic issues.
If you usually park on the street during these times, please follow these quick rules to keep everyone safe:
- No parking on the South side of Russell Street: Keep this side completely clear.
- Park only on the North side of Russell Street: You must park with the flow of traffic, not against it. Your car should be facing High Street.
- Keep crosswalks clear: Never block a crosswalk, even for a quick second.
To keep things moving smoothly around the neighborhood, use this quick loop from High Street:
- Turn from High Street onto Palmer Street
- Take a left onto Maxwell Street
- Take a left onto Russell Street
Check out the handy map to see exactly how it works. Thanks so much for being a good neighbor and keeping our kids safe!
The Falcon Way: Attendance Matters Every Day
Sleep recharges!
Playing with friends, participating in sports, learning at school, and other activities make for busy days. By the end of the day, everyone needs sleep.
The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that children ages 6 to 12 sleep 9 to 12 hours per 24 hours to promote optimal health.
Tips for bedtime
• Help your child prepare for school the night before by laying out their clothes, backpack, etc.• Set up a routine where children and youth slow down before bed and go to bed about the same time every night, whether it’s a weekday or weekend.
• Don’t use screens at least one hour before bedtime.
• Make the bedroom a cozy place where your child can relax.
• Make the bedroom a screen-free zone.
BACKPACK PROGRAM
We’re excited to announce that the Backpack Program is back for the 2026–27 school year!
Every Thursday, participating students will bring home a grocery bag filled with healthy, kid-friendly, shelf-stable food—three meals and snacks to enjoy. Think of it as a little care package from school! In the past, bags have included items like ravioli, cereal with milk, granola bars, fruit cups, and, of course, the all-time favorite—macaroni and cheese.
Who can join? All Fisher Mitchell students are welcome—this program is open to everyone and not based on financial need.
We also now offer a free produce table on the second Wednesday of every month that doesn't require signing up. If you sign up for the backpack program, we will send home produce once a month with your student to provide you with fresh fruits and vegetables.
To enroll your student in the Backpack Program, it is easy!
Just email sderosa@rsu1.org and include your students name and their teacher.

Match Your Child With a High School Mentor!
As a caregiver, you want the best for your child: confidence, connection, and the tools to succeed. The Big Brothers Big Sisters Bigs & Littles after-school program provides just that!
In our mentoring program, your child (the "Little") will be paired with a high school student ("Big") who acts as a mentor, friend, and positive role model. Through weekly meetups at Hyde School, your child will build confidence, receive encouragement, and gain support in navigating challenges and celebrating achievements. Our dedicated staff ensures a positive experience for all participants.
Steps to Enroll a Child:
- Complete the online application (link: www.bbbsbathbrunswick.org/enroll-a-child) or ask your school counselor for a paper copy!
- BBBS Staff will set up an interview with your child (Little) at their school.
- When we find the perfect Big, BBBS Staff will preview the Big to caregivers for approval.
- If approved, the match will begin meeting weekly after school.
- BBBS Staff will talk monthly with the match and caregivers to ensure it's going well!
