Principal's Pen
Welcome back to everyone and everything that we have been missing. A full assembly in the gym with everyone from grade 1 to 12 has been something that we have been missing, and it really gives students and staff to see the big picture. I have been here long enough to have seen a couple of turnovers of kids going through all of our grades, and watching them move back in seating in the assembly until they move out of the building and into the world really hits home what we do here.
Along with parents and community we build people who are ready to move on and become the leaders that will determine our future. The more times that I see the process of kids move on, and the result, the more I realize the responsibility we have to make sure they have every choice available to them. I have always said there is no job that is beneath anyone, but you do want to make sure that everyone has a choice of what that job is for them.
We try to provide as many opportunities as we can, but with that we need to attach responsibilities and expectations. Giving something that isn’t earned does not build respect for what is given. This year for example we are introducing an open campus for grades 7-12. With that, however, is an attendance policy that requires students to be in school for full days at least 70% of the time. This attaches an expectation to the new found freedom and at the same time encourages students to be in class where they can get the most out of school.
Our goal, as always, is to provide a quality education for all students. From this we have seen doctors, farmers, lawyers, oil workers… This is a sign that you can choose whatever you wish to be, so long as you don’t set your limits while within these walls.
Extracurricular and all the outside of the classroom opportunities help to build the character that is needed to be successful in any choice made. With that comes the responsibility to be caught up on your studies and be in the school enough to have success. With COVID protocols being lifted so is the leeway with not being at school on time, or away as much and so the expectation and responsibility changes. We look forward to working with all of our students in the classroom, gym, outside, or wherever we need to meet them. We have high expectations for our students, and that is something we will never apologize for.
Thanks,
Greg Knot

Staff Updates
Ms. Lynnette Thompson
My name is Lynnette Thompson, and I feel very lucky to be working with the students and staff at Medstead School this year. I will be working mainly with the Grade 1 and 2 students and hope to get to know many others too. I have been fortunate over the last 23 years to have worked with excellent school divisions, schools and students. I've taught many combinations of grades and have taught all grades Kindergarten through to Grade 7 in my career so far. I decided to move from the city to be closer to my family who live and work in North Battleford. My family includes my son, daughter and soon to be son-in-law. I'm also very lucky to be called "Nana" by one sweet little boy. I'm very happy for the opportunity to work and live in Medstead for the next school year.
