Congratulations to Mount Vernon City School's Music Department!
I am thrilled to announce that our Music Department has been honored with the prestigious Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation! This recognition is a testament to Mount Vernon City Schools' outstanding commitment to music education and its dedication to providing exceptional music access to all students.
Now in its 25th year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to school districts that demonstrate remarkable achievement in fostering a love for music and ensuring that every student has access to quality music education opportunities.
This achievement reflects the hard work, passion, and talent of our music educators, students, and supporters. It is a testament to the collaborative efforts of our entire school community to prioritize and celebrate the arts in education.
I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone involved in making our Music Department a shining example of excellence in music education. Your dedication and commitment to nurturing musical talent and creativity are truly commendable.
Let us continue to inspire and empower our students through the power of music, fostering a lifelong love for the arts and a deep appreciation for the importance of music education.

Solar Eclipse - April 8th - No Classes for Students
Mount Vernon City Schools will not be in session on Monday, April 8. Have your solar viewers ready for a once-in-a-lifetime event in Ohio on Monday, April 8! Each student has been provided with an Eclipse View Card to bring home.
An extremely rare celestial event will occur in our skies: a solar eclipse where Mount Vernon will be in the path of totality. Starting at approximately 1:56 p.m., the moon will begin to pass between the Earth and the sun. The total event will last for roughly 2 hours and 31 minutes. However, totality will begin at 3:13 p.m., casting a shadow over our area for nearly two minutes.
Mount Vernon City Schools will not be in session on Monday, April 8, to allow students to view the eclipse safely with family. While traditional classes may not be in session, the learning doesn't have to stop! There are many online activities and resources to explore the science and significance of solar eclipses. Parents, we encourage you to join in the excitement by discussing the eclipse with your children and exploring educational resources together.
Remember to view the solar eclipse safely. Please ensure that you and your family use the eclipse viewer card sent home with your student or approved solar viewing glasses to protect your eyes. Read the attachment for safety information from NASA Science.
Together, let's make the most of this remarkable opportunity to view one of the wonders of our universe!
