In the interest of ensuring that our clubs are safe and inclusive for all, PSUSD is revising the names of all district GSAs. In the past, GSA has stood for Gay Straight Alliance, but following guidance from the GSA Network, it now stands for Gender and Sexuality Alliance. Some district clubs may have other names, such as Pride Club or Rainbow Club... no need to change those names! The only change being made is to the words in the GSA acronym.

As you begin this new school year, consider the language and procedures you use in your classroom and school. Are you asking students to line up or take turns based on a "boy, girl, boy, girl" pattern, or are you using gender neutral language to accomplish this goal? Do you address your class as "you guys" or are you including everyone by using language such as "hey everyone!"? On the whole, are you creating gendered spaces, or are you creating spaces in which students across the gender spectrum feel seen and safe?

This article from Gender Spectrum offers some great tips on creating and maintaining a gender inclusive classroom!
