A Message from the Superintendent
Dear Weston School Community,
As we approach the holiday break, I want to take a moment to reflect with gratitude on the many ways our Weston community continues to support and uplift one another.
This time of year offers a natural pause. It is a chance to look back and celebrate accomplishments, while recharging for the months ahead. In doing so, I continue to be inspired by the dedication of our faculty and staff, the curiosity and resilience of our students, and the meaningful partnerships we share with our families and the broader Weston community.
I look forward to welcoming everyone back in 2026, refreshed and ready to continue our work together in the new year. Happy holidays, and best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year.
In partnership,
Erica

Spotlight on Our Schools
HURLBUTT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL
As part of an extension to our second grade social studies curricular unit Working Together as a Community, two of our second grade classrooms engaged in a collaborative learning experience with a WHS Government class. Our second grade students taught their HS counterparts about our form of local Weston government, including what our Board of Selectmen does to run our town. Our high school students then taught our second graders how ideas can become laws. Our students loved working side by side with the high schoolers. They brainstormed ideas based on problems they identified within our town. Some of the problems our students identified were related to safety, lack of sidewalks, and use of pesticides. Each group then voted on which problem they would like to draft into a bill. Our high school peers guided our second graders to create drafts of bills to improve our town. We are so fortunate to have all of our schools on one road so that we can collaboratively learn with each other across schools. This was a great experience for both our Hurlbutt students as well as our Weston High School students.
WESTON INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL
December was a month filled with connection, generosity, and joy across our school community.
- Our personal care drive, held in partnership with the Weston Food Pantry, was a wonderful success. Thank you to all who donated and helped support families in need during this season.
- On December 12, our students and staff participated in a schoolwide PJ Day to raise money to support children with life-threatening illnesses, furthering our commitment to caring for others.
- This month also featured our Project Challenge presentations, where students shared their creative and thoughtful work. It was truly inspiring to see our students share their learning with such confidence and enthusiasm. In addition, our third graders took a field trip to the Weston Historical Society, where they explored local history and deepened their understanding of our community’s past.
- We were pleased to offer math and reading sessions for families, which led to meaningful conversation and engagement. For those who were unable to attend, videos will be available on our website soon.
Our celebrations of holiday spirit brought joy to all ages.
- Our students shared carols at the senior center, spreading warmth and music to older members of our community
- Our school-wide holiday sing-along was a highlight of the season; laughter, music, and togetherness filling the building.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership. On behalf of our entire staff, We wish you and your family a joyful holiday season and a happy, healthy New Year.
WESTON MIDDLE SCHOOL
December was a month to celebrate WMS’s amazing musicians. Our band, orchestra, and chorus concerts demonstrated the talent, drive, and attention to performance detail of our music program. Thank you to our incredible music staff and kudos to our students for their incredible performances!
We continue our commitment to enhancing our school community through the implementation of Connect (advisory), whole school community meetings, and individual team meetings. In December, one of our Connect activities was a “Start, Stop, Keep” reflection activity that allowed students to reflect on the work we are currently doing and think to the future about our school needs. One priority for students is a master schedule that prioritizes flexibility in how time is used. This includes time to meet with their teachers, extended time for project based work, and “soft start” time in the morning to ease into the day.
For the past month, individual teams have been meeting to build team spirit and community. They play team building games, review team expectations, and celebrate the accomplishments of students on their team. We also have a community assembly scheduled for the week before winter break. Students will work in multi-grade teams to share a holiday tradition and solve a staff and school trivia challenge.
On behalf of WMS’s students and staff, happy holidays, Go Warriors!
Weston High School
Weston High School celebrated the start of the winter season with a series of spectacular performances that showcased the talent and dedication of its music department. Audiences were treated to concerts by the Choir & Chorus, directed by Mrs. Elizabeth Morris, Orchestra, directed by Mr. Glenn Ullman, and the WHS Band and Jazz Band, directed by Mr. Geoffrey Brookes. The concerts brought the community together for an unforgettable celebration of the arts.
The WHS English Department proudly announced the Film Fest selection for 2025! After much consideration and discussion, the department chose the Academy Award-winning film CODA. CODA is a 2021 coming-of-age comedy-drama film written and directed by Sian Heder. An English-language remake of the 2014 French-Belgian film La Famille Bélier, it stars Emilia Jones as Ruby Rossi, the child of deaf adults (CODA) and the only hearing member of her family, who attempts to help her family's struggling fishing business while pursuing her aspirations to become a singer. Through communal viewing in our auditorium and student-led discussions, our students will explore several themes in the film, including voice and identity. We truly appreciate all of the work that goes into bringing this tradition to fruition each year.
WHS Athletics
December 1 marked the start of the 2025–2026 Winter Sports Season, and our teams are off to an exciting start! Girls Basketball opened the season with a strong road win against New Milford. Cheerleading is back as a winter sport for the first time in several years, and after beginning practices this past week, they’re ready to bring the energy - be sure to catch them at an upcoming basketball game! Boys and Girls Ski enjoyed their annual trip to Smugglers Notch, taking advantage of fresh snow while building team chemistry. Boys Swim and Dive have their season opener this Friday against Masuk. Wrestling opened the season on the road at Newtown, while Boys Basketball hosted Westhill in their season opener, drawing a great crowd. We hope to see that same support across all winter programs! Boys and Girls Track, with a combined roster of 95 student-athletes, will travel to NYC this weekend for their first meet of the season. Boys & Girls Ice Hockey is up and running along with E-Sports and Unified. We also want to give a shout out to Tyler Umhoeffer on being named All-State for Football (our 15th fall All-State Athlete) - congratulations Tyler.
Good luck to all of our winter athletes - we can’t wait to see what you accomplish this season! Don’t miss the excitement - check the schedule and come out to support!
